February 17, 200818 yr When I worked for an insurance company, I took dental calls. Basically telling people what coverage they had, etc, etc. I can't tell you how many times people thought that they had ortho coverage and didn't or that an "average" ortho bill was 5 grand or more and the coverage was only 500 dollars. You add to it, that the insurance only covered children up to a certain age, just frustrating to tell someone that their dental insurance will not cover or will only cover a certain amount. I know that's true with any medical procedure, but I had never really gotten into any insurance stuff until I got this job and it was just STUNNING all the red tape that people have to go through in regards to some insurance situations.
February 17, 200818 yr Deuce you're about the same age as me, so if it's not horrible I'd say forget it. I have one random tooth on the side that's way out of wack, but you can't see it at all. Even if I try to point it out most people say they still can't see it, I say who cares, the older you get, the less pretty you're suppoed to look. Not to mention the fact that we live in KY and we've got a stereo type to help uphold.
February 17, 200818 yr Also on a side note, hoping you don't dip. Ha I did in HS, and had a best friend that did also. I would regularly bust into an outburst of laughter after he'd dip, those braces loved saving some for later.

But anyways, yea basically I just keep an electric shaver in may care, although it's only so I don't look tooo horrible.
February 17, 200818 yr They're certainly a pain to deal with (I had them from sophomore year in high school until spring break of junior year in college). But if you're self conscious about your teeth like I was, they're worth it (I had an unattractive gap between my two front teeth).

February 17, 200818 yr Homeless Camel is right. Our insurance covered only $500.00. The ortho also required a $800.00 down payment. Fortunately the grand total was only $2400 each for us. We planned well in advance and increased our flexible spending withdrawals. This way, we paid for the braces with pre-tax dollars. I learned to plan way in advance when the twins were still babies! Also, I got second opinions. One ortho wanted $4800 for one and $5300 for the other. I went back to the original ortho who had quoted $2400 each. Incidently, they were only one block apart in Ashland, KY, so the costs weren't based on location.

I mean I want to get it fixed, but I just don't know about wearing them for 2 years....
February 17, 200818 yr 2 years is a normal time frame for braces, but I know people that have had them much longer and some people who had them only a year. Can't hurt to go to the ortho and check it out.
