Only thing I would add is to have a nice feeder program that the coaches oversee.

I rarely blow our own horn but I really do think that we (Brossart) go the extra mile to be a COMPLETE program, that represents our school to the best of our ability and serves the student/athletes who represent us, while operating in a first-class, above board manner.

 

I think that a lot of things go into the definition of PROGRAM, besides wins and losses and who has the superior players.

 

Tradition - the ability to compete and succeed year in and year out.

 

Superior Coaching - Coaches who get the most out of what they have to work with and work hard to put their players in a position to win. Who aren't afraid of miles to scout and the hours it takes to break down film, and devise a game plan.

 

Quality Kids - Players who excel in the classroom, on the hardwood, and in the community. Kids who are a pleasure to be around and make your job easy and enjoyable.

 

Challenging Schedule - Knowing your talent base and putting your team in a situation in which they are both challenged and in which they can succeed.

 

Exposure - Playing in out of town tournaments/showcases/team camps that provide a well-rounded overall experience for your team.

 

Pride - Doing the little extra things that make your program special. Media Guides, website, radio/internet broadcasts, theme nights, open practices (Exhibitions), youth camps, Meet-the-team nights, coaches clinics, community interactions, quality grade school league programs etc., etc., etc..

 

There are many good programs out there who don't have the resources to do all of the above, but provide their players with positive experiences that they cherish for the rest of their lives.

 

To be a top PROGRAM in the state is to be a complete package of all of the above.

 

And Scott Co. has all that and they try to get there kids exposed by going to top ranked basket ball tourneys out of state so that college coaches can see them (maybe when they are looking at another kid). Lets just talk about this year they went to the Marshall County hoop fest and then to the City Of Palms in Florida, then to Beachball Classic in Myrtle Beach SC. then to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Not too many schools do this in their programs.

It takes alot of work by the parents to get this done.

Out of the big schools, the big three have got to be Mason Co., Scott Co., and LexCath with Ballard, Henry Clay, Warren Central up there...

 

With what they got I think Brossart, Hazard, and UHA are three of the top small school programs..

Yes, I believe that should be part of the criteria. :lol:

 

Scott Co., LexCath, and Mason Co, and Ballard are the big 4 IMO.

 

 

If the KHSAA really wanted to make the Sweet 16 field stronger they could move Scott Co. back to the 8th Region and move Madison Central into the 12region. If you look at the state, Louisville is split up into 2 regions, Northern Ky is split up, with not all the teams being in the same region also. Or you could some how split the Lexington schools up a bit and put them in different regions.

Over the last 15 years or so, I would go with this top 10:

 

1. Lexington Catholic

2. Scott County

3. Ballard

4. Warren Central

5. Pleasure Ridge Park

6. Mason County

7. Male

8. Paducah Tilghman

9. Henry Clay

10. Fairdale

As a parent I think you would want to put your kid in the best possible environment to develop. I have heard that other states (Florida comes to mind) that allows the kids to choose the school they want to attend. I think that would (if overseen correctly) would improve all programs. The schools who do not perform well due to lack of attention and support would not be well attended for extra curricular activities. This would put pressure on the admin to choose program leaders that will develop and lead. currently there are schools in Ky that definitely are not adequately satisfying there districts needs.

sorry to the moderator for getting a little off subject, but it really bothers me when schools with large populations have way less than average programs. That is why schools like Mason, Scott Co, Lex Catholic continue to thrive in Ky Athletics. (If I left your school out I'm sorry, there are many others that put effort and committment into there programs as well but could not mention all of them.)

In recent years what about the South Laurel Cardinals.
