And I'm not excusing their behavior, but if the public knew all the crud that police officers have to deal with we may be a bit more "understanding" of why they sometimes crack and do these types of unacceptable things. Every time I hear a teacher complain of low pay, I immediately think of what police officers get paid, the risks they incur and garbage they have to deal with to get that meager pay.I concur, but no amount of verbal abuse can excuse this type of action. I know many fine Hillsborough and Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies. I have a retired Largo PD officer in the family. I respect few people more than I do a man or woman who would carry a badge. None of those I've talked to since this was shown on local TV last night, have any feeling other than disgust for this incident. Even if Sterner had physically abused the deputy, she had no excuse to do what she did. Especially, not with that many officers around her who could help. I saw no weapon on Sterner in the video. Even if she cracked, as you suggest, the fact that her supervisors did nothing speaks volumes. LN, you're a marine. Doesn't there appear to be a major lack of discipline from the top down, here? There may very well be more to the story, but what could he have done to deserve this? Even if there is some kind of valid justification for Deputy Marshall-Jones to do such a thing, this type of reaction just makes all law enforcement officers' jobs harder.
February 13, 200818 yr I also agree. But in fairness, I wish the media thought that instances where criminals hit cops, resisted arrest, etc were just as newsworthy. For some reason, we rarely hear about those circumstances and you know they happen much, much more frequently. :thumb: Good post leatherneck, I absolutely think that these police (and I use the term loosely in this case) should be dealt with and dealt with severly. I alsoa agree with and understand the other part of your post and know exactly what you are trying to say, imo ot many people stop to consider what a policeman hears, sees and has to deal with eveyday on the job.

Woman Signals Plan To Sue, Says Arm Was Broken At Jail The bulk of the above news report is not relevant, the notice of intent to sue was filed in September of last year, but the last 3 paragraphs are. The line is starting to form. Law suits galore. Most will lose, but the money and time spent on defending these suits is the shame. That's why I got upset. BTW - Notice how misleading the headline is.

I have had encounters with police officers several times, not only in their "work environment," but also in a civilian manner. They weren't exactly the nicest people...And no, Im not lumping all police officers into one group, because I know that the vast majority are VERY good people, and take the work they do VERY seriously, and I applaud them for that. I just seem to run into the bad apples....

March 5, 200818 yr I love the police untill they pull me over. Just kidding. I know alot of cops in Trigg and Lyon Co. Most of them I can talk to and joke with but there are some that I dis-like. I'm not going to say why, but I am on probation. Not once when I got arrested, while I was in jail, when I got transferred from Ok to Ky, and while I was in court did any police officers treat me with dis-respect or even think of me as a "bad" person. Matter of fact they all told me good luck and one cop from Ok even gave me his number to let him know what happened to me in court. What this video shows is WRONG. I'm not saying police officers should love every criminal that comes in. With some criminals this is what they need to do to cuff them or transfer them or whatever. But this man was no threat at all. He's in a wheelchair people!
