Miller and Hopson handle ball extremely well. The only reason they are playing forward and not gaurd is the hight advantage inside.

Doesn't surprise me that he left Ferguson 28ppg of Elliott off the list. One he is not a senior, but I doubt he make his list next year. Best shooter in the State of Kentucky with the same range as Lofton. Against Raceland he hit a trey from 31 feet and consistently hits them from 25-27 feet. By the way, the 31 footer was not an end of quarter shot. It was with about 3 minutes left in the 3d quarter. He was a whole lot closer to half court than the three point line. He has incredible range on his jumper, beautiful form and rotation, and arch that draws rain sometimes!!!

 

And yes, I have seen Mack, Sloane, and Henderson play. Have not seen the kid from Barren.

Dakota Euton, Rose Hill, 6'8" soph can hit pretty consistently from way out. He may still be a bit streaky, but other teams guard him deep...just in case.

Whoever has possession of the ball most of the time is arguably the most important. The point guard will handle the ball every possession. Circular reasoning.

In baseball the pitcher get credit for the win or loss. In football the QB does the same. So then why don't pg's get credit for wins and losses? Instead, the high scorers usually get the credit, pg or not.

You got to have a smart PG on the floor to win in March.

Mr. Fields quote might not be nearly so discussion-worthy if he had said a team with these five guards instead of a team of five guards.

All I would say is who is going to keep there ego's in ck , the way i see it is they all would want to shoot? No passing to open man? Which means a lot of bad shots?:argue:

As I said before, a big guy is nothing without a PG, but a team with no post guy will win, but be hard pressed to be champions. A big guy is what often pushes a team to the next level. I agree with your assessment that PG is the most important, but you need a guy down low to really be great.

I don't agree that you have to have a post player to be great. The Clay county teams with Farmer did not have much in the post. they were adequate. I have seen some regional champions without a post threat at all advance to the state tournament.

Well, when I said great, I didn't mean simply regional champions. Even though this is in the high school thread, I was referring to NBA champions, NCAA Champions, and even Kentucky High School Champions (Jtown, South Laurel, Warren Central) all had a post presence.

The year Mason County won (2003), they did it with no starter over 6'2". Lending credence that HS basketball is a guard's game.

 

One would think that a team of all-star guards such as those named by Mr. Fields would indeed stand a great chance of winning the Sweet 16; unless maybe they were up against a team of all-star swingmen.

This is fact, the year J'town won the state title, every game at the state tourney the team that shot the most three pointers LOST. J'town took alot of high percentage shots. Thats why they won the State Tournament. Guards are great but u have to have some size!!!! If u look back to the last 5 state tourney's I bet over 90 % of all games at the state the team that has shot the most three's have lost. Do the research.

Agree with that! Many of the big guys are big because they are still growing or grew later than guards. Most players still growing have yet to develop complete coordination and strength. Some not until their early twenties.* Then, they are very susceptible leverage-wise to the shorter, stronger player with the center-of-gravity advantage. (This is why so many teams put in "wrestlers" to defend in the post.)

 

*This is a concern I have about our "system" as opinions are cast on many players well before they have matured.
