Fitzgeralds is a steak joint you have got to go to atleast one night. Best steak I have had in years.

 

There is also a Barb-Q joint down there that has all different kinds of sauces. Cant think of the name but I bought a few bottles of the Carolina Sauce and brought em back.

The Bar-B-Q place you are talking about is probably a place called "The Smokehouse." It started very remote and small because its in a smaller building but they recently added a lot of outdoor seating. If its a hot day though I wouldn't recommend that. Very hard to eat a good meal as you are dripping with sweat :creepy:. There is another BBQ place I like down there called "Sticky Fingers." That might be what you are talking about also. They are both somewhat similar to "Smokey Bones" out by the Florence Mall if you have ever been there. Except they are better...

If you drive thru Beaufort, you have to go to Steamers on Lady's Island. Just across the old bridge from Main Street in Beaufort. The best food ever. There is one in Hilton Head but it just doesn't even come close. May I suggest the Frogmore Stew. Then if you drive out towards Fripp Island you will pass thru Frogmore on your way to another awsome small tavern called Johnson Creek. Always packed during High season. Then if you want to pick up some great fresh shrimp just about a mile before the Tavern you will see the Gay Shrimp Company that has fresh shrimp just off the boat. Awsome.

The Salty Dog in Sea Pines Plantation near South Beach is a must. There are 3 other nice restaurants there that won't blow your head off as well as shops and a large outdoor bar if you have to wait which you probably will. Also Harbor Town is very cool with shops, restaurants, the boat docks and the golf course, there is usually free entertainment early in the evenings there and cheap drinks and grilled burgers etc.If you play tennis there are courts across the street from the Salty Dog, bike rentals and boat rentals behind the salty Dog.

Wow, tells you what I know on the steak joint closing. Sticky fingers was very good. The wing joint was cool also if you want to go where its happening. I really liked Hilton Head and would recommend it to anyone but like most are saying on this thread, bring a lot of greenbacks.

You don't have to play golf on HH, a deep sea fishing trip for a day would be fun. I agree go to Savannah for a day. When I was stationed in Beufort SC we used to go to HH, Charleston and Savannah and we had a blast. You will not be bored if the weather is great besides it is your honeymoon for tops. Have fun and enjoy. JD

You got to be crazy it's legendary! Besides the Dog are other fine restaurants next door and shopping!

Sticky Fingers put The Smokehouse out of business this summer.

 

cshs is right - Wild Wings Cafe is pretty good. There are 2 locations (1 off the island, 1 on). I would recommend going to the one on the island in Coligny and it's a good time at night as well.

 

If you're looking for the bars, head to The Triangle (the square? now). It's 4 bars in a row and they share a common patio, hence the name. Reilly's isn't a bad place to eat, either. It is 1 of the 4 establishments in that area.

 

I would recommend going to the Tiki Bar by the Holiday Inn (in Coligny Beach). It's the best spot to hang out and you can spend all day drinking and listening to live music. I had heard that they were planning on closing it, but I'd guess that it's still open.

 

If you want seafood I'd recommend Steamers. The owner is actually from Owensboro and it's a pretty cool setting.

 

If you're looking to have some frozen alcoholic drinks, I'd head to Frosty Frog Cafe. Their food is decent but pricey. I'd go strictly for the drinks - they've got a lot of them and they're pretty good. It's a nice way to spend a day on the beach.

 

They used to have fireworks every Tuesday night further on Business 237. They're over water and there are some impressive boats out there. May be worth heading down for after dinner or something with the wife, but a decent firework show isn't worth the parking hassles to me. Maybe it is for you & yours.

 

Charley's Crab & Crazy Crab are both pretty good. But, they're both very expensive.

And Henry's right, take a day and hit Beaufort. Super nice town. Head out 21, hit the Steamers on Lady's Island for lunch, then head out to the beach at Hunting Island State Park for a few hours, then hit Johnson Creek Tavern on the way back to town for a beverage and some cheap food. The next day, hit Charleston. If I didn't live in N. Ky, I'd live in Charleston. By far my favorite part of the South. I love the Low Country. One of my best friends and fellow Marine officer still lives there on Sullivans Island. He enabled Henry and I to see the inside part of Charleston that very few outsiders (particularly Yankees) get to experience (his Momma's family traces back to the Charles Town landing folks and in Charleston everything is about when your family came to town). We went to Charleston for a few days this past November when I turned 50. Great time. Thanks again Henry.

I can't say for sure, but my guess is that it would be pretty tough if you didn't have a connection. By connection I mean a family member that is currently there.

According to the Web site, you can still take tours of PI, so go for it. Heck, I'll try and go with you if I can invite myself along. :thumb:

The fireworks are at Shelter Cove - just thought of the name! It is in the same vicinity as the mall.

 

If you're looking to cook some meals while in HHI, I'd recommend going to the Fresh Market that is also located on Business Rt. 237 (or is it 238?).
