There's not enough talk about Highlands football going on around here...

August is a LONG way off, and it seems that I am beginning to experience some Highlands football withdrawal symptoms, so (if nothing more than for my own medical well-being) I have started this thread for any discussion relating to Highlands football (past, present, and future).

I know it's not yet time to make the "HHS 2008" thread, so I'll do my best to not focus on the upcoming football season (at least, not too much)!

Here it goes:

Apparently, the official publication for the Fort Thomas Independent School District, Traditions, will be doing a feature article about Highlands football in an upcoming edition. The writer of the article contacted me last week for permission to use information on http://www.highlands-bluebirds.com for this story. I'm looking forward to reading the story!

A little while ago, it was reported that Mr. Bill Thomas was writing a book about Highlands football. From what I understand, it will focus some on past players and seasons, and also on the 2007 season. I believe that it is due to be published later on this year! I am so glad that Mr. Thomas has taken on this task (he had recently authored a book about the Fort Thomas community), and I'm sure it will be a great tribute to a great football program!

Anyone, please feel free to comment or discuss other topics!!!

Also, it sounds like Highlands' flag is flying above Fountain Square. If someone was planning to head on over to see this in the next few days, perhaps he or she could bring a digital camera along and take a few shots to post on BGP??? Just something to consider!!!!

Those of you that are football junkies will get your fix in about 2 months with spring ball. After spring ball it seems like no time and then 7 on 7 starts. It's not as far off as you might believe.

Unless they're suiting up tomorrow, it's too far off.

I was just over to Fountain Square to check on the flag. I wanted to get a pic but it just wasn't windy enough. I guess I missed the opportunity yeasterday. I must say, Cincy needs a bigger flag pole. Starting from top to bottom of the pole you have the American flag, Ohio flag, Cincy flag, Highlands flag and the Beechwood flag. The US, Ohio, Cincy and Highlands flags are all the same size. (8 ft x 12ft.) The Beechwood flag was smaller. By the time you get all those flags on there, heck the Beechwood flag is almost eye level. What was bad about today was that the flags weren't really flying and with the Beechwood flag being smaller, the Highlands flag was covering it up.

To solve this problem, I suggest that the city get rid of the Ohio and Cincinnati flags for the next couple of weeks, as they are just needlessly taking up flagpole space and detracting from the more important flags, namely the American flag, the HHS flag and the BHS flag... frankly, I think this is the most reasonable course of action!

I'm (mostly) kidding.

And why isn't this the lead story on the Cincinnati Enquirer's website?

That's right, it's February and there's only 4-5 active Highlands football threads. What's up with that? Are the masses becoming complacent?

Sorry! The basketball team is having a rather decent season! Besides, after that banquet...what more be said! Except...I attended the signing ceremony for the 3 Birds' who inked: Hempfling, Carothers, and Stein. Can't tell you how proud I was of these guys...(and the one's yet to come!). Lots of teammates also came out. JRs to Freshmen! Can't wait to see the ICN coverage that Don Weber took! (supposed to air next Tuesday). I wonder if Peko got anywhere with the cute blonde HS reporter he was chatting up??

That's Highlands with an "s". :D

No, he's right. Highland (whoever that is) would probably lose. In all seriousness, let's just quit beating around the bush and give Highlands it's own forum right up there along with Football, Politics, Pro Sports, etc.
