Kentucky had a great recruiting year as opposed to years past. They would have never signed in-state guys like Boyd, Field, or Winston Guy in previous seasons. We keep scratching out winning seasons and going to bowl games the recruits will come. Louisville built their program on 3 star guys and the best in-state guys, Kentucky is taking the same approach. We may not go to a BCS Bowl as quickly as Louisville being in the SEC (if we ever go), but this year we signed some guys we never would have had a shot at in years past. Plus UK only lost one soft verbal this year as opposed to the 2 or 3 (sometimes more) they have lost in years past. I'd say things on the rise.

 

Kentucky just has to find a way to keep winning. I look for a bumpy ride next year, but in 2009 and 2010 when this class has had time to learn the system and will see the field, I feel we will be in good shape. I look forward to renewing my season tickets and watching these kids grow over the next 3 and 4 seasons!

U.K. recruiting/competing for top talent against other SEC schools will be tough. Little by litte I hope that the Cats can build more respect and be able to compete with some other SEC schools for these kind of players.

When you are going after the same kids/kind of talent that the likes of Fla., UGA, LSU, Bama, Auburn and the like it is going to be tough to say the least.

 

IMO U.K. has to get the top in state kids and get them on a regular basis, make it a "no brainer" decision for any of our state's football players/athletes to pick U.K. over other in state schools. I think that this has to happen and will happen, (establish in state dominance) in getting any and all of the in state kids that we want. Then....... be able to pick up a few from other states as well, including a couple of top players along the way. This will be a slow process for National recognition and respect but imo U.K. is on the way to doing that.

That's fine with me because it makes the Cats play with a chip on their shoulder when the SEC teams with the 4 & 5 stars come to Lexvegas.

Rankings are a rating of current ability but also, potential. Players are only as good, as the "team" and coaching staff around them. We all would like to have the 5-Star rated player, great arm, exception speed, size, lateral quickness but he has to be infused into a scheme, that will elevate his abilities and the team concept.

 

UK has elevated their play, give the credit to the coaching staff. Most of these talent, wasn't given high rankings or the top 2-3 on most boards, yet they competed and won in the extremely tough SEC. I'll take players who want to get better, tremendous work ethic and are coachable.

IMO one trait that has been left out of all of the recruiting rankings and blogs, and is one that can rarely be identified is HEART.

I love this class for the Cats...This bunch is going to be fun to watch the next couple of seasons.

They have coached up players before, but the players they are getting now seem to be better athletes. Back when we got Little and company and later classes, I notices we were getting players offered by teams that made bowl games. I do not follow recruiting, but it does seem not all 2 and 3 star players are the same. Also, I think I read uk has lots of returning players, so the roster might be pretty full.

I agree with this on BOTH staffs.

I actually cannot remember a year Kentucky has not been atleast 10th or worse in the SEC in recruiting.... it just comes with the territory of playing in a league with states that have tremendous high school football (Florida, Alabama, etc.)... really goes to show the outstanding job Kentucky has done recently....

There are several former Rocks @ UL, but not on athletic scholarship.

I think 7 or 8 St.X Tigers.

I like to see the home boys on the teams I pull for stay there, but sometimes you get lucky...Shaun....Joe Willie Etc. look at the Hilltoppers not one Kentucky kid, look at the Cards B-Ball team does Rick even look at the Bluegrass? Coach K has done a good job and so has Coach Brooks.

Rick Pitino recruited quite a few players from Kentucky. Preston Knowles is from Clark County & Terrance Farley was from PRP, although Pitino tried to run him off the team.
