34th District Seeding?

Featured Replies

When, where, who and how do they draw for district seeds? I read somewhere that the 34th is a blind draw, is this true for the girls as well as the boys?

Blind draw for both the boys and girls in the 34th district and I believe I heard they will draw on Feb. 16th but I could be wrong about that..Once again there apparently is a couple of schools in this district that have ADs and administrators who are afraid to seed for whatever reason..Come on KHSAA step up and do something right for a change and fix something that some schools can't seem to get right..

Which schools don't want to seed?

I don't know why you wouldn't want to seed unless you are the worst team and you hope to draw the next to worst team......because don't you move on past districts if you make it to the Championship Game no matter win or lose?

There are several of the smaller Class A schools mostly public but a couple private that refuse to seed. Dayton and Bellevue are 2 that from the looks of the thread on the 36th draw don't wish to seed and the school that you often times have a comment or 2 about in girls Bball also refuse to vote to seed. Their reasons have never made any sense other then they seem to enjoy being difficult within their district.

Wow, that makes no sense to me. Because in the 34th Ludlow is crazy for not wanting to play Lloyd (they killed them) or Villa. So random draw could put them against Dixie? But I guess if you are a school like Dayton or Bellevue and figure you don't have a shot any how, then take the chance to get a competitve school randomly.

Thanks for the info....interesting.

So does most of NKY not seed?

I'm not sure I'd vote to seed if I were a consistent lower level team in a district unless it was the size of the 33rd. I want my kids to get the chance to play in the Region .

:thumb: Agree..On the girls side I see no reason why Ludlow would be afraid to face any of the teams that are in the 34th district including Dixie. a team that they lost to but played one of their worse games and I think they feel they still could have won.

Doing what makes sense isn't always what happens as far as I'm concerned when it comes to the seeding/blind draw issue.

I hear you there! It helps the lower teams, but could potentially hurt the better teams! And as much as I dog the Ludlow people, they are a good team and well coached. I would just prefer (as a basketball fan) to see them play Dixie in the District Championship game, rather than to gain a spot in the Championship game against a lesser opponent.....

I would love to know the answer to this one? Is the 35th a blind draw as well, Beechwood, Latin, Holmes, Holy Cross, Notre Dame. Is the vote to seed, not to seed, have to be unanimous within the district?

They seed. Latin does not compete in the KHSAA, I think that is correct?

Beechwood is the fourth seed by default because they do not play the other district teams any longer.

I'm just curious why you like dogging the Ludlow people?

Your beloved Ludlow will not vote to seed in volleyball, imagine that.

IMO, a school should not have a vote. The state should say, everyone seeds the tourney or they don't. Everyone is always complaining about making things equal across the state, well, this would make things equal. All the districts seed or they don't seed.

Beloved Ludlow:confused: From what I have been told by some who I know who have worked at Ludlow it is an administrative decision (AD, Principal) to vote not to seed for whatever reason that only they could explain. I believe there are some of the coaches at Ludlow that really could care less and would have no problem with seeding. Their previous baseball coach actually did vote to seed the baseball district tourney and he should be commended for doing so.

If you have read any of my previous posts you will see that I believe it should be one way or the other. Seeding? Blind draw? Just pick one and everyone needs to follow it. No more of this some seed and some don't stuff.. KHSAA needs to step in and clear this up and take it out of the hands of the schools since it appears they can't all seem to agree.

While I tend to be in favor of seeding, the region and state are blind draws. Realistically, if the KHSAA wanted to maintain consistency then they would institute blind draws across the board in district play.

The diffence between district and region/state is the quality of team. A seeded district should send the two best teams to the region. Once in the region, everyone is pretty good so it doesn't matter as much. Along with that, seeding a regional tournament would be very difficult. By the time state rolls around, all sixteen teams are solid and seeding wouldn't be practical.
