Is it really that much red tape? We seem to have no problem with this and it is not a big deal for most of the schools that I deal with. If you are doing things fairly and everyone is doing their part of fund raising then this is a non-issue.

Some will look at it as the better end of the deal but in reality, it is just the girls getting caught up to where the boys were the previous 20 to 25 years.

I see way more empty seats at all female sporting events......especially in the public school facilities. If they had to survive on their own fund raising and gate receipts, they would not survive.

If HS athletics is supposed to be about students learning life lessons of hard work, teamwork, commitment and all of those other warm fuzzies we say about sports, then the female athletes deserve that opportunity as much as male athletes regardless of gate receipts.

Lbbc you have got the qualify the first part of your statement here don't you with the words (from public schools ) .

That does happen at lots of schools, but again I feel this is an administrative issue. If the administration publicly shows that they support the girls as much as the boys, so will the fan base. At my school, the girls draw as many or more at their games as the boys and that makes me extremely proud. The boys team are always at the girls games, set with the pep section and cheer throughout the whole game. The girls does the same for the boys and this shows extreme support for each other. Again, I think this is an administrative issue, and it makes me extremely proud of our student athletes as well.

Sorry but this is not correct at 95 % of the schools that are in my district and region. I am not sure where you are going to games but come on down to our County and see the crowd our girls get. or any of the local districts.

 

I would say they are even, if not larger, than the boys crowds, but I would never think that based on this the girls deserve better equipment and locker rooms etc.

 

For our community they are part of the social culture whether they are winning or losing. Heck, most of our county politicians are at every event (along with the local clergy)

Isn't football considered a coed sport? It rarely is in reality but there are girls that play football.

No, I meant expensive. Those boats can't be cheap and rowing them in the Ohio River has to be hard on them.

 

 

We go to watch the girls row sometimes, if getting up at 5 am is your thing of course. They don't get too close to the falls, usually staying between the island (Towhead I think) and the mainland. They store their boats is a ratty looking facility and the girls drive themselves to practice. The river is free. I can't see where this sport is costing too much to UofL.

 

Assumption HS has a rowing team, and I hope Mercy and others add one as well. My kid is perfect for the one at the front of boat -- she has a little body and BIG lungs!!

Not sure I would but would be interested to hear from Private school supporters that are familiar with the programs BEFORE 1985 or so. Did the practice times switch from boys' to girls' meaning girls' weren't always practicing late? Was money spent the same way? Was coaching hires treated the same? Was fundraising handled equally?

I agree with you. Its just a shame it took a federal law, enforced by KDE and KHSAA, to force the coed schools (mainly public) to make it happen. If the federal law hadn't been enacted, I genuinely doubt that there would have been much if any improvement for the girls. What does that tell you?
