Should the Big East split into 2 conferences, Non Football and Football Schools?

Featured Replies

Split the non football Big East schools. But that's for another thread all together...

So be it...

They would need a few more teams to make each work, but yes I think it would be best for all parties involved honestly.

Why would they need more teams?

Yes, I think that some of the non-football schools are getting to be dead weight. Seton Hall & St. John's for example haven't really been very good in basketball lately. I think that a large part of the Big East revenue is made on football. Given that we don't have a playoff in the FBS, my belief still stands that college athletics is all about money.

As far as Big East expansion, it wouldn't be necessary, however, I think that a lot of the country would put more stock in a Big East champion if it was more than an 8 team league. 12 teams would be optimal so that the NCAA would allow the cash cow that is a conference championship game. As again it seems to all be about the money.

Along with Providence, Seton Hall and St. John's. That makes an eight-team conference.

Sorry! You edited before I saw your repost.

Have we already expelled St. John's, Seton Hall and Providence?

I am just throwing them all out there for everyone.

The question is: Would the non-football conference have any ties with the existing Big East Conference? I can't see the Big East letting Notre Dame go, just because there is a slight possibility that might join for football eventually.

I have a few ideas for how this would work, but I'm in the middle of a project and can't get in to them right now at length. They are headed this way fast, though IMO...

The football schools could add Marshall, Western Ky., Memphis, and one more.

That would be a heck of a football/basketball conference eventually.

You have to tie the two divisions in to one conference, and I personally like the 16 team tournament format with split divisions...
