Best Manager/Coaches in the 16th Region?

Not true Greysbranch AABC has more kids registered than any year previous. BC AABC is still around but numbers are down. This year there will be a area AABC league involving Greenup, Boyd, Lloyd, and Raceland AABC. IMO it is going to be great for our areas baseball.

I agree, it's a great thing for our area. The biggest thing we need to do is to keep these kids interested in baseball. What will help us right now is that we seem to be in a special time here. From the sounds of it, we as an area are saturated with really good talent and coaches. If we as a whole can get these young players out to watch some of these high school games, then it should help to show them what they are striving to be.

Also, I know that Greenup, in the past, has had little league clinics at the high school, where the GCHS staff and team have spent time with the kids. This, IMO, is a great way to keep the interest alive. I have seen many kids come up to the high school ballplayers looking for autographs and such. If they get to spend a day with their "heroes", then that, too, may help keep them interested.

Kinda funny. We must be talking about different AABC Leagues.

My son played at BC AABC a few years ago and there was quite a few teams, at least 4 in each age group. Last year there was NO teams playing AABC. Only one team played at Fannin Park in Boyd last year and it was Cal Ripken and a traveling team. This year there is NO teams playing at Fannin Park from my understanding.

Last year there were 2 teams in the older group at Greysbranch and a few in the younger groups. There used to be more than that.

Raceland has lost a team every year and from some of the previous post, will not even host a team in the older groups.

So, that means Greysbranch might be there in numbers, but basically Raceland is close to being shutdown and BC is shutdown.

I think the big question is that whether it is the kids being lazy these days or the Parents and Coaches being lazy compared to back in the Day. Maybe the Dads are in the house playing Video Games.:thumb:

Greysbranch is going to have two 9&10 teams, two 7&8 teams and looks like 2 tee ball teams plus the older teams, I just went to the coaches meeting last week. That makes 8 teams and the most that I can remember in Greenup. I also know that the guy who owns KC Diamond is starting the BC AABC back up.

I know of several players that are playing at the high school varsity level that played in Greysbrach AABC and BC AABC league.

I have coached Babe Ruth for the past couple of years and I have noticed that the high summer teams are taking most of the kids from Babe Ruth and they are playing for the traveling teams as well. I do understand the point that the high school teams have taking all the kids 13-15 years old but there are a few of the kids that dont play alot and why dont they let them play Babe Ruth to get playing time sittting on the bench does not help the kids.

You mean he is starting a young team that involves his Son...Thats a bit different then starting back up a League.:thumb:

For anyone that doesnt know about AABC in KY, it is pretty well not existent now. No State Commissioner for the last 2 yrs and you have to go play in the Ohio State Championship IF you wanna play in a State Championship because there is NO Ky State Championship because lack of teams in the state of KY. Northern Ky is about the only area that has AABC anymore, and they play in the Ohio League anyway. Thought it was interesting too, because all the fields in Ohio where the AABC is hosted has NO outfield fences...Makes for a interesting game.:thumb:

Cal Ripken and USSSA is the way to go anymore.

I do agree with the USSSA and Cal Ripken is what most teams are playing and you can find alot of teams to play, and tournaments also.

I would also have to go with Greg Logan as the best coach in the region. He knows the game more than anybody I know and is just a great all around coach. He also has Steve Logan who helps with pitching and at first. Steve knows alot about pitching and can make some pitchers out of the kids at Greenup.

Randy Vanderhoof is the only one in the KHSAA Baseball Hall of Fame. I rest my case.Your move.:thumb::ylsuper:

I do not mean this to sound like I am trying to insult u Springsteen I am just wondering.

How long has Hoof been coaching?

How many regional championships does he have (in baseball only)?

Good point. I agree that Hoof is a great coach, but remember that Logan is only starting his 2nd year as a high school head coach. Given time, we may very well have 2 district coaches in the HOF.

I believe he is in the Coaches association hall of fame, not the KHSAA Hall of fame. Still a nice accomplishment that you are eligible for when you reach 300 wins. He seems like a good coach, and a better man. The KHSAA hall of fame is very tough to get in. I don't believe there are any baseball coaches from the 16th to ever get in, that includes Joday Hamilton with 600 wins and a state title, and JP Kouns with 550 wins and a state title.

Vanderhoof has to be at or very close to the top.

He is no doubt a good coach, but Logan has not had the time to accomplish that of Vanderhoof. Logans first year at GCHS he took a team that was previously .500 all the way to the elite 8. Going into his 2nd year he already has a 16th region championship. This is my opinion on the best coach in the region, but for Vanderhoof being in the KHSAA Baseball Hall of Fame I guess he would have to be the best.
