Which may explain Mr. Sears concerns about private schools. He now has one in his backyard that may be gearing up to join the the KHSAA. If they become successful, could they hurt Somerset attendance and thus the amount of ADA money the district receives? He may think so. I've never understood Mr. Sears passion in the public private split. This could explain it.

Somerset Christian is growing really fast and just moved into their new facility this fall.. They should be a KHSAA member soon.. Sears is retiring at the end of the school year so maybe he won't rile the home town folks too much..:sssh:

Beechwood is an independent school district located in Ft Mitchell Ky that has both boys and girls.

I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holdiay Inn Express recently. Please don't take this as gospel, but I think it is pretty accurate.

 

According to KY state law, school districts are organized by county. Within some counties there are exempted, or independent, school districts. Residents in these exempted districts are exempt from paying taxes to the county school district, and instead pay taxes to the local school dsitrict.

 

For example, there is a Campbell Co. School District. In Campbell Co. are Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, Ft. Thomas (Highlands) and Silver Grove exempted school districts. Exempted districts are public schools that are a district within a larger district.

 

In Kenton Co. School District are Dixie Heights, Scott and Simon Kenton high schools. But Ludlow, Beechwood and Holmes are exempted school districts in Kenton Co.

 

Ky law forbids the creation of new exempted districts, and also forbids the merger of exempted school districts, unless they merge with the county district. This law was changed, I believe, when KERA was implemented.

That is a very good question. Privates can take kids from outside and screen them to take the best and brightest. Ind. takes whomever live in the so called cities ( which is usually a small number) and then pick and choose the students outside from a county district that then make up the schools population. If they don't want a particlular student they are usually full or so it seems and then the county schools are reguired to enroll all the kids.

When did Sayre stop football, they were really good in the 70's?
