January 22, 200818 yr A lot of people would have chose Vick over Brady in college... And character in college matters a lot less than you think. Sometimes a players true character doesn't show till the spotlight is in their face and the cameras are rolling. Pac-Man Jones, M.Vick, Ryan Leaf, Randy Moss, Ricky Williams and many more were very good college players but showed their true colors once they made it to the NFL, but in college they were shinning stars on successful teams... I played college football, and I'm telling you character matters. I agree with what you said about the sometimes it doesn't show until your in the spotlight. So as a coach or teammate, it is difficult to put faith in someone as a leader who already let himself and his team down. And for all of the Leafs and Vicks that do have good college careers there are hundreds more that don't make. You just don't here about them because nobody cares.
January 22, 200818 yr I have no idea...I'll trust Joker and Rich to make the correct decision. Both are unknowns...

I do think people can turn their lives around. I am hoping that is the case with Pulley. I think Joker will look long and hard at all of his QBs and will make the best choice for the program.

Just saying on the field success has got little or nothing to do with character or integence... High school's and colleges around the country are full of great athletes with poor character. Just the facts, character doesn't help you throw, catch or run... Not to mention I don't feel Pulley is all that bad of a guy. I think his biggest problem has been his work ethic...
January 22, 200818 yr You really get way too torn up over things about athletes from Hopkinsville. You really cannot see why people would be cautious about Pulley? Bell, you don't think I asked legit questions? I simply wanted to know why he felt that way or where he got his information from. Yes, I definitely can see why people could feel this way but, I still asked the questions. Just like yourself and everyone else on here, we all tend to defend out territory so don't say that I get torn up over comments about Hopkinsville athletes. Look at the number of posters from Western Kentucky, not many so yes I will jump in and ask questions, or debate but trust that I am not at all torn. No more than you are when there are questionable or debateable posts about your athletes. That's as honest as I can put it without getting anymore torn than you think I am already!
January 22, 200818 yr How many have there been about mine? How many times have I always been all over a subject about any of "MY" athletes. At this point in time though, I'm not even sure who "MY" athletes are. Ask around, I'm about as objective as anybody on the board unless it comes to Mason Co.

At this point in time though, I'm not even sure who "MY" athletes are. Ask around, I'm about as objective as anybody on the board unless it comes to Mason Co. To be quite honest, I have no idea who your people are! Being from Hopkinsville, I can't even tell where you are from or who you root for by your name. Therefore, I have no idea how many threads or subjects concerning your people have been started. You must keep really good track of mine though, nice to know. Look at my number of posts compared to the time I joined and look at others with much less time and compare the difference in numbers. I guess all those came from jumping all over threads or posts that had an Hopkinsville athlete as the subject.
January 22, 200818 yr I like it that way. I follow a few different teams, and dont let where I am from or who I root for cloud my judgement. It's not hard to keep track of who your guys are. Anytime there has been a Pulley, Abren, etc. thread you have been all over it. It probably makes up over 50% of your posts. I have to wonder, if you have no idea who my people are, how do you know how I have defended "mine." For the record, Pulley probably ends up being the QB next year. Its hard to rule out Hartline and Lentz though. Pulley could really help at WR though with the loss of pretty much all of our impact WR's except for Lyons. He doesnt have to be the "leader" out there either.

Just the facts, character doesn't help you throw, catch or run... Not to mention I don't feel Pulley is all that bad of a guy. I think his biggest problem has been his work ethic... IMO you're wrong. Character is what makes leaders. It's what helps you make the right decision at the right times. It's what makes people look up to you and believe in you. It makes the people around you better. It makes your team better. It's one of the reasons that the most talented team doesn't always win. It's the intangible you can't measure that makes champions.

Face it guys like Jacob Tamme are one in a million, you'll find many more on the other end of the spectrum than you'll find like him. Just the facts, being a good guy doesn't make you a better athlete... And the team with the best athletes win championships(most of the time) not the team with the most/best character. If character won championships FSU and Miami wouldn't have any.

Lack of character is what gets you where FSU and Miami are now. If Bobby doens't start recruiting the right kind of players again he will stay at the current mediocre lavel that he is at. Which is pretty bad concidering the talent pool there. Ditto for Miami.

As far as Ricky, he is my first cousin, so I may have jumped in a few times where his name came up. The other post concerning Pulley are just me stating my opinions which is one of the main reason BGP exists. Check my posts, I comment on Hopkinsville because I'm familar but, I have had my share of posts on other subjects. Don't have close to 11,000 post as yourself, but I choose to pick my posts (not fights) on here carefully! Are you even the original poster that I commented on or quoted? At any rate, thanks for keeping up with me and the threads I comment on, I had no idea that I frequented so many threads that featured Hopkinsville athletes until you told me. If it's okay with you, I am done with this sparring session with you. I am not trying to raise my post count while beating a dead horse. You will continue to see me commenting on the same threads as before!
