Reds sign Jeremy Affeldt

Featured Replies

I wish they would give me a call. I'd come in and sign for 2 million to give them some competition. You guys would be saying who but it would have saved a million with about the same results:)

Just the fact that Cordero joined the pen makes it better. I moves Burton and Weathers down to the 7th and 8th and they were both solid last year. Not to many bullpens can say they have three pitchers with the combined numbers of Burton, Weathers and Cordero.

I agree. I like Weathers in the 6 and 7 and Burton in the 8th. Also, Coffee (I know he wasn't very good) is working hard and Bray have a healthly arm this year, after he recovers from his surgery.

I like this. Can't have enough pitchers to compete on a team.

I think they brought in Affeldt to compete with Belise. Also, do you think this is a Krivsky signing or a Jocketty "advising" ?

Other than Cordero, who makes you love the bullpen? I think Affeldt will join the pen.

He will be giving a chance at a rotation spot.

Affeldt is 25-27 for his career. His best season was in 2003 when he went 7-6 with a 3.93 era, and 98 K's...

That is not worth 3 mil.

Considering the average MLB salary is now $2.82Mill, I consider this a very good move.

It is a good movie, just i think that he would have signed for 2 instead of 3 mil. Don't overpay if you don't have too

I just think that if your going to give this guy 3 mil, you have to step up and give Matt B. a little closer to what he is asking for.

Its hard to tell right now. There are a few spots that will be won/lost in Spring Training, but right now it would look something like this...

C - Ross/Valentin

1B - Hatteberg/Votto

2B - Phillips

SS - Gonzalez

3B - Encarnacion

LF - Dunn

CF - Bruce/Hopper/Freel

RF - Griffey

Bench

Hopper/Freel

Ross/Valentin

Hatteberg/Votto

Keppinger

Either another C or OF

1. Harang

2. Arroyo

3. Belisle

4. Affeldt/Bailey/Volquez/Cueto

5. Affeldt/Bailey/Volquez/ Cueto

Closer - Cordero

Setup - Weathers

Setup - Burton

Relief - Bray

Relief - Majewski

Relief - Stanton

Relief - Coutlangus

Don't forget Malony competing for a starting rotation spot.

Good move, IMO.

Affeldt comes in and competes for a spot in the starting rotation. He's a big lefty who, at one time, had some great stuff. If that doesn't work out, bring him out of the pen and you have another veteran lefty you can rely on.

When??

When??

I've never seen the guy pitch, but I read somewhere that he throws 93 with a very good curve.

Can't have enough lefties on the rotation or out of the bullpen. A can't lose situation for the Reds. I'm often critical of the moves they make, but this is a good one. :thumb:

Unless you have lefties like Cormier and Stanton.
