CovCath 67 Holy Cross 56

Recommended Posts

Colonels balanced scoring attack too much for the Indians. Sorrell plays like a POY candidate.

CCH- Schmerge 21, Roll 14, Maile & Shover 11, & Grimes 8

HC- Sorrell 15/21 FG, 3/5 3P, 4/5 FT, 13 rebounds and 37 points.

CCH 53% from the field & 53% from 3P 10 of 26 FG's were threes

HC- 49% from the field & 22% from 3P 4 of 18 from 3P

As usual, great atmosphere for a regular season game.

Great Atmosphere tonight the cheering section of Holy Cross suprised Cov Cath and may of won that battle but as for the game they need an offensive threat outside of Sorrell. They have Giwa but he is not always on... Holy Cross needs to go more with looking to drive to the basket quicker they stand around and wait to long.... Giwa and Trimpe can both take anyone to the hole... Stewart and Trimpe need more playing time and Barth is no threat on offense and is not a very good defender they should look to give sophmore egan some playing time from the looks of the JV game he is very physical and can score

Folks, its not often you get the chance to watch an offensive performance that will stick in your memory for quite a while. Sorrell's performance tonight was one of them.

I don't think he missed his 3rd shot of the GAME until the 4th quarter. He never forced one shot the entire evening. His repertoire is second to none in NKY. How do you want him to score? 3 Pter? LONG 3 Ptr? Jump hook? Drive to the left? Right? Fast break? Check on all of them.

His offensive game is hands down the most well-rounded in NKY and its not close.

Random thoughts:

I'm thrilled for Chris Rolle. He's struggled a bit shooting but tonight he was feeling it. I'm guessing he had 4 3s but it was WHEN he had them. CCH was down 13-2 to start the game and he hit a couple of 3s to narrow the gap and give CCH momentum heading into the 3rd qtr.

JD Schmerge will be the key to CCH moving on in the tourney. When JD was a SOPH, he was a one-trick pony - spot up and shoot. He's now an all-around player especially on the defensive end. His aggressiveness on both boards and his hustle only add to a strong shooting ability.

Great , great atmosphere. I think HC had every student in the school there tonight.

Maile did a great job passing out of the low block that led to easy wide open 3s. Hats off to Andy Roenker of HC for battling Luke down low - two strong kids going at it.

Is there an official that takes as long as Ron A. to make a call. It took so long on one that I think Coach Goetz forgot what happened on the play by the time he realized the call went against him.

BTW, fun JV game to watch.

Anyone else besides me wondering why Trevor Sorrell, who hit 4 3s in a row, was on the bench late in the game while the Colonels were within 3 or 4 points with the ball?

Sure was!

None of those threes touched the rim! Everyone around me kept asking why #22 was on the bench even though they were glad he was. I was glad HC won, but I sure was happy to see Trevor drain those threes!

A+++ evening at Holy Cross. As always, the Indians were extremely gracious hosts. The gym is small but bursting at the seams with tradition, elan, esprit de corps and character. Sorrell was on fire. Everything he heaved toward the basket went in. Great come back for the Colonels. And, after a rough start, it was great to see Aaron Noll come in when M.G. tweaked his ankle, score a big hoop and grab a couple of key rebounds. The Round 1 District Tournament rematch should be a battle.

:thumb: I've tried to tell other people in other threads, thanks for the further validation.

It's a really good group of seniors in NKY this year, but anyone who has Sorrell ranked fourth in the area is missing a RARE treat. His numbers are mind blowing.

Ron A. should not be allowed to work CovCath games at this juncture. He spent most of the last eight years being their "in house" referee at the freshman and J.V. levels. It looks bad.
