You said: If he could have stayed he would have. Which simply isn't true. He wasn't fired, so he COULD HAVE stayed if he WANTED. I'm not making any comment about what the fans did or didn't do, but Tubby COULD HAVE stayed if he desired.
January 20, 200818 yr Tubby will retire from Minnesota so end that speculation now. The notion is almost silly to even consider! How about Ryan Hogan, Carlos Toomer, Steve Massiello (Spell ??)and Myron Anthony--all wonderful Pitino recruits who did so much for the good and advancement of UK basketball. The point is, Pitino and Tubby both brought players to the school that didn't need to be there and it happens all over the country. NOT every player that signs withe a D-1 program is going to be a star, just that simple! Do you really want to go down this road? Pitino's 96 team had more talent Smith's last 5 put together and Smith had more wasted scholarships in last years senior class than Pitino did in his whole coaching tenure at UK. Massiello (spell ??) was a walk on/victory cigar. FWIW, Hogan, Anthony (a Parade All-American), and Massiello were some of the Pitino recruits that helped Smith win his only NCAA title. My question is how many Smith recruits are wearing a title ring or been to a Final Four for that matter?

His team is struggling this year because he lack of talent in the senior and junior class. And don't give me the players go early defense to Billy D because Rondo and Morris is still supposed to be here. Which actually would be a HUGE accomplishment considering how bad they were last year. They still have a chance for the NCAA tournament though, they just got to keep making sure they beat the teams they are suppose to beat. And maybe pull off a win or two against a team they weren't suppose to beat. I mean they have been close a few times, but just haven't finished it yet. Whatever happens though any postseason birth at all for this Minnesota team is a huge accomplishment.

Actually, I just looked at their remaining games and I think they will finish the regular season at 19-11, then pick up a win in the Big 10 tournament, and have a 20 win season.. Which actually would be a HUGE accomplishment considering how bad they were last year.
