Ryle 53 Gallatin Co. 38

Featured Replies

Good win for Ryle on a night when their outside shooting was practically non-existent.

Saw a first for a call in basketball tonight. Late in game, Gallatin player drives hard to basket. Contact ensues and whistles blow (he makes basket). One ref calls blocking on Ryle and other calls charging on Gallatin (call could have gone either way). They discuss for a few seconds and end up calling football's version of off-setting penalties - fouls on both players, disallow basket, and call jump ball. Gallatin's coach gets fired up (understandably) and gets tech. Starts to break open what was a very close game to that point. Odd call.

Did the shooter release the ball prior to making contact with the defender? If so, the basket is good since it was a double foul. Defense then takes the ball OOB.

If the shooter did NOT release the ball prior to making contact, the basket is not good and the shooting team would still have the ball taking it out on the endline.

Whatever, the call was horrible. You must be a ref to come up with that argument. Ryle won the game and the played hard and have a nice young team, but as Mr. Athletics said Gallatin took a royal (typical) 9th region screwing. One of the refs would have been outclassed in a middle school game.

No, disagree. They had one call go against them. Up until that point I would guess that Ryle had been pegged for 4-5 more total fouls than GC. One don't think one bad call - and, believe me, it could very easily have been a charge call as it was one of those bang-bang plays - qualifies as a "royal screwing." Ryle was ultimately the better team in this game and this call alone did not decide that.

That is the correct call if they can't come to an agreement. It is a double foul, no points and go to the alternating possession. This is something you don't want to happen (a blarge - block/charge) and one of the officials should have sold the call and took charge of the situation. If neither didn't, the correct procedures were followed.

One correction, Madman. You do not go to AP. You go to the Point of Interruption which may include the AP if there was no team control and no made basket.

Double foul is called, if the basket went in it counts, if not shooter will get two free throws with lane cleared. Ball placed out of Bounds at point of interruption according to AP, which in this case is baseline.

Not correct. You first have to determine if the shot was released prior to the blarge. If the shot was released, the basket is good. Defense then takes the ball OOB.

If the ball was NOT released prior to the blarge and the ball went in, no basket is awarded and its the offensive team's ball underneath since they were still in team control when the blarge occurred.

There are not FTs shot in either situation.

If the ball did not go in and if the ball was released prior to the blarge, the POI is the AP. There are not FTs shot.

Who has GC lost to this season???

Gallatin has lost to Scott Co., Anderson Co., Holmes, and now Ryle. All are very solid teams.

I think that this game was pre-determined by a referee with the power to do that. Gallatin County was threatened with technicals before the game had even started, on more than one occasion, one ref enticed a Gallatin player to say something worthy of a technical, a ref even cussed towards a Gallatin player. I simply don't think this was a fair game! Altough it may look like only a few calls were absolutely terrible and one-sided, these calls came at times when they were simply devastating to Gallatin. For instance, on the "Blarge" play, if Gallatin gets the two points and the free-throw it's a five point game, instead Ryle gets the ball and scores making it a ten point game. This is a situation where one call pretty much sealed the deal for the Raiders, and I think the refs had this type of control over the entire game!!! Again, Ryle won the game, they deserve the win, it's just a shame it wasn't decided by the players.

You are assuming, of course, it was actually a foul on Ryle and it absolutely could have been a charge on Gallatin.

I'm not sure how you can say that Ryle deserved the win and in the same paragraph state that the outcome had been pre-determined by the refs. A bit contradictory. The refs did an overall fine job in this game - notwithstanding the call on the one odd play -and to say they intentionally favored Ryle thoughout this game to ensure they would win is dead wrong. Ryle was the better team - at least last night. They deserved to win.

Ryle was the better team. They led from the beginning, controlled the game and deserved to win. Anyone who watchede the game should be in agreement with that statement. Nothing said in this post is meant to take anything away from the kids or coaches from Ryle. However, I am giving you facts as I am close enough to the program to be quoting coaches, players and a score keeper. Before the game, Gallatin's coach was told to stay in the coaches box and sit on the bench the entire game before the game ever started - maybe this was said to the Ryle coach as well but but I am not priviledged to know this information, a player was asked how many players was on the Gallatin team by the short referee - the player responded we have 14 or 15 depending on who is injured, the referee threatened to give Gallatin a technical for not answering the question and said they could receive a technical on their coach, the score keeper was threatened with a technical if the book was wrong - Gallatin was not the home book - this does not apply to Gallatin, it is Ryle's responsibility to have the home book. All of these events came from one official. One official made 80% of the calls - that should not happen in a 2 man crew game. The same official called 2 fouls on Carlton when he was 15 feet away from the play. Carlton got the foul on the Maley foul - ZJones and Henson were involved in the play - Carlton was at the free throw line. When a referee acts unprofessional before the game, and then plays go against you, it is difficult to feel as though you got a fair shake. I wish Ryle the best - THEY WERE THE BETTER TEAM, I still think there was a very biased referee involved in the game.

I can't agree with the out of position vs. in position ref statement. The play actually came out of the trail officials primary area and he can take the play all the way to the basket. This should have been discussed in the officials pregame. In cases like that the lead official (underneath basket) will follow the ball if there is a pass, the trail takes the crash. Although there wasn't a pass on the play I can see why the trail official would stay with the ball. Both officials should have held their call to see what the other had before signaling. However, as Madman stated the correct procedure was followed.

I have rec'd the same officials training as these goofballs did, and from the same organization, yes the coveted NRBOA. THEY ARE TAUGHT TO HOLD THE CALLS IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS AND DEFER TO THE OFFICIAL THAT THE PLAY IS COMING TOWARDS. Obviously this training went out the window and the trail officials ego kicked in (couldn't possibly have made the wrong call now could he?), considering the trail official blew the whistle, immediately indicating an offensive foul from about 45 ft away, then while he has his hand in the offensive signal behind his head, begins to scratch his head as if to say he had an itch! That is BS and he knows it. I intend to address this with him when I see him next. The 9th region blows there own horn on how well they train there officials, making each official go through 5 years of training before they get a varsity game. THE JOKE IS ON THEM BECAUSE AROUND THE STATE THEY ARE VIEWED AS THE WORST OFFICIAL SENT TO THE STATE TOURNEYS. :flame::flame::flame:

I'm sure all the cat fans remember last year's Class A State when the 9th region official in the Gallatin v. Brossart game pretty much took over the game and made sure everybody knew he was there....he made quite a few bizzarre calls....gotta love those 9th region officials....

I don't think that is necessarily true. The 8th Region don't even get invited.

I think you need to read your rulebook. In this situation, a double foul would be called, if the basket goes in - it counts, the shooter then gets one free throw (with the lane cleared), then you go to the alternating possession. If the basket did not go, the shooter shoots 2 shots (lane cleared), then goes to alternating possession at POI. Release point of the ball has no bearing on the play. Let's say player control was called by both officials.... If a player commits player control foul the shot is not counted regardless of release. Let's say both called a block in the act of shooting.... if the ball goes in it counts, again regardless of release, and if not he shoots two free throws.
