Ernie funded the districts by not completely funding the retirement system of state workers and teachers. When you don't put money in those accounts, eventually they will collapse.

 

Also, the expected revenue this year is 500,000.00 less that expected and will be even lower next year. It is not the same picture that we had 4 years ago.

Because of the revenue shortfall, the state is overbudgeted this fiscal year that ends in June. The GAO which is non-partisan does the revenue forcast. Every state agency except education was asked to cut 3% out of their current budget, not the next one - EVERY AGENCY EXCEPT EDUCATION. I was at the chamber dinner on Thursday night, and while they view the shortfall with different lenses, every one that spoke, Hoover, Woorley, Richards, Williams, and Beshear acknowledged that there was serious shortfall and that there were going to have to be cuts.

 

we have a split government in Frankfort, if the Republicans disagree, they can block it in the senate and come up with their own plan.

Frankfort/Franklin County, which is really only one community, rejected a proposal to merge governments - besides given the travel time in some of the easter areas it would be very difficul to call it a local government when it would take longer than a 2 hours to travel to the county seat. You would shrink the number of counties, but send them more work to do?

Why not a slight alcohol tax? You could get more money since more people drink than smoke.

I know this might sound like a really dumb question but how does the state have over a $250 million short fall??? And if our last govenor caused it....why is he not in jail!
