Putting an end to this chatter: My sources have told me that the reason Coach Leach left the program was not because of the parents or the players.

 

Maybe not directly. The administration is afraid to stand up to the parents down there for fear of lawsuits. They would rather "ask" the teacher to apologize and say that the whole incident was the coach's/teacher's fault and welcome the player/student back with open arms to "save face" rather than standing behind them. It takes a lot for a coach to ask a player to leave practice. They'll make them run or stand on the sideline while someone else plays "their" spot before they toss them completely out. If it gets to that point the player just needs to leave, not tell the coach "no".

Did you know that this situation was investigated to the full extent? Players, and coaches were interviewed. Stories all matched. I feel that the staff took the appropriated steps to get to the end resolution.

So he resigned because he dropped some curse words or he kicked a kid out of practice?

 

 

If either happened then I would have to say Greenup County is soft as a marshmallow.

 

Parents allow their kids to cuss, go watch R movies, and let 16 year old girls dress like they are Paris Hylton or Spears but get upset when a coach cusses or talks mean to a kid........and people wonder why basketball in East Ky. is not well respected.....

Yes the player is back on the team, didn't even miss a practice. He got a one quarter suspension, that he served in the first quarter of tonights game. Started the second quarter and didn't come out the rest of the game. Not much punishment for cussing on the coach, which DID happen, in my opinion. I'm not saying coach Leach should have said what he did, I'm just saying the coach is gone and the player got a one quarter suspension. Have to wonder where the priorities are at Greenup.

I just hope coach Smith and coach Sutton are able to turn things around. Best of luck to them and the boys.

According to another thread, it appears the player is back on the team. Maybe the coach was "over-ridden" by parents, administrators, or whomever and put the player back on the team and that is why he quit.

Of Course! It's a Joke down there! All this "chatter" said by another poster IS a HUGE deal. Please don't listen to the downplaying of the parents role in all of this.

First, I want to specify that I am not siding with either party. I know first hand the situation and both, Coach Leach and the player, were in the wrong. But I also know first hand about working in schools, and no matter what a player/student says, the coach/teacher can not respond the way Coach Leach did. It's just not acceptable, as it should not be acceptable for a player to disrespect the coach, either.

 

I thinks it's a terrible situation for the GC players to have to go through two years in a row.

Good luck to the GC boys and hopefully to a fresh start. Just put all the negative comments behind you and work hard (as a team), and things can only get better. And to the player involved in the incident, I think you're a darn good athlete and a lot of your teammates kind of look up to you. So, you keep up the hard work, try to always set a good example, and things will turn around for you and the team. Again, GOOD LUCK GC!!!

That is not why he resigned. On the radio before the game tonight, they said that Coach Leach was having some personal problems. If they are personal then we should respect his privacy in the matter.

However, let's be honest what else are they going to say as to why he resigned! Good Luck to the Search Commitee in finding a coach that can give this program stability. Greenup Co. basketball games used to be a blast, and now they are dull compare to where the program used to be. They desperately need to pick the right guy to restore tradition and prominence back to one of the 16th's elite!

To answer one of your posts on another thread earlier Mr. Freeze. Coach Hicks never cussed anyone, it wasn't allowed by coaches or players. See some people have class. Then you have those that want to have class but they keep losing the CL.

The problems at Greenup County start at the very top. Untill the West end "Good ol boys" are all gone it will always be just like it is now, a mess. Who pays the price? The kids!

Hopefully Coach Leach will successfully work through these issues, and GC will be able to find a good fit.

If it is because of personal problems then I wish coach Leach the best also, however I doubt that is the true reason. As for the "Search Committee", I think that was part of the problem the last time. Some people on this "committee" who should have no interest in Greenup Co. basketball, other than just as a fan. Funny how some of the committee members who selected coach Leach are the very ones bad mouthing him two or three games into the season. Maybe they should look at selecting a "special committee" to select their next "special committee".... How about someone who has the "team" as their main interest and not a couple of individuals?

I think the personal reasons has to be dealing with the parents. I think Greenup County has a coach in mind and a few know who it is going to be. I think that he is an assistant in a college across the river from some of the things I have been hearing since last year. It is a sad time when the system goes this way Greenup County use to have a good sports program and now look at it.
