I hate Eastern Kentucky!!! Not really. I do hate the "good 'ol boy" mentality of the area, though. Anyone not from the area will never get a fair chance at Greenup. I've known Coach Leach for a while and he is a great guy and coach. He runs an exciting style that is fun to watch, when the right guys are there to run it. His Kentucky Christian University teams were VERY fun to watch and also successful. Unfortunately, there just isn't the talent at Greenup. Anyone who blames Coach Leach for the Muskies season is ignorant to basketball and I will be happy to tell them that to them in person. Coach Leach is charismatic and great with kids. I just think the previous regime at Greenup has soured a lot of players, parents, and fans and given them the idea that they run the joint. Greenup needs to lighten up and realize there just isn't the talent this year as in the past. Sounds like a situation going on about 120 miles west down I-64 at a certain institution.

There is talent at Greenup Co. but with the system that Leach was running is not for those type of players. Leach has a run and gun system and that is not for those players thats why his system worked at KCU cause you could recruit for that type of system.

Point taken, I should have made it more clear (I thought that my other post on this subject spoke of that).

I am not against the kids at all and I didn't mean for my post (:thumb:) to say that I was putting any kid/player down - I wasn't :thumb:........... as a matter off fact they are the only ones that I support or feel for in that school system and how it is ran.

Judgemental? Do you disagree that there is not the talent that there has been in the past few years? We all knew they would struggle this year before it even started. The situation makes me sick because of parents and administration, though. You and Oldrambler are right that it is sad for the kids. A struggling season should not cause this ridiculous situation in the MIDDLE of the season. I feel that GCHS thinks it is a little more important than it really is. If this were Louisville Male Football or Lexington Catholic Basketball, then maybe I understand the pressure. But Greenup County Basketball? It's just not that big of a deal. Maybe they should just drop the program for a year and regroup. Not a bad idea.

The team over the last few years has consisted of over a half dozen players from the same Christian school in Canton, OH. Many of the players seek out KCU because they know they will have the chance to play and contend for titles. The resources are not there to go recruit players to fit his system. Coach Leach took those guys and taught them his system and was pretty successful. The current coach has continued Coach Leach's system with the guys Coach Leach taught and almost won the National Championship last year. Just like any coach with a new system (ie. Billy Gillispie) it takes time to teach it and become successful. All the complaining and, in my opinion, arrogance does drip down to the kids. With the parents feeding their kids garbage, that does corrupt the kids minds and makes them not respect the coach. But that's not the kids' fault.

 

I read somewhere earlier that parents are trying to relive their high school years through their kids. I would have to agree with this. In my line of business, I see parents taking their kids' side all the time because anything that kids do that is bad reflects on the parents. They see their reputation as more important than building character in their kid. They don't want their high school friends to think they aren't "popular" anymore. So they complain and fight for their kid to not be disciplined to save their own embarrassment. I get the feeling that a little (or maybe a lot) of this is happening at GCHS. Like teachers say: The job would be a lot easier without the parents.

Putting an end to this chatter: My sources have told me that the reason Coach Leach left the program was not because of the parents or the players. I agree that parents can get a little too involved at times, but no parent had approached Leach about anything. No coach is going to have 100% support at any school as well as any person who is in charge of others.(bosses, teachers, managers, etc.)

 

You may not think that "Greenup is not that big of a deal", because it is not Lexington makes no difference to the kids playing at GC. IT IS IMPORTANT TO THEM. Most will not go on to play after this season.

 

As far as the kids and their character, learning it from home. Kids also respect and learn from teachers, other adults and coaches. When the coach drops the "big word" to a kid, do you call that showing good character? Even if an apology is given, the word was still said and the situation still happened.

 

Again, let's stop the chatter about GC parents and fans running Coach Leach off. Good Luck to Coach Leach, and good luck to GC basketball players and staff in the remaining season.
