Seems to me the BGP team is the most accurate all-state team assembled every year...

Sounds like not many AP people really pay much attention to the award.

Just a theory but maybe the AP voters thought it was a no doubter except for the 3 people that voted for someone other than Robinson. I have no facts to back it up but maybe the 15 or so who didn;t vote didn't think it was worth the time, Maybe BGP should take it over. Once again, just a theory.

Pikeville's a daily now. (As long as you don't think Monday and Tuesday are days. At any rate, the Kentucky Press Association includes the News-Express in the smallest of its three daily categories.) I believe the Floyd County Times in Prestonsburg is also an AP member, but I would be quite surprised if the sports editor there votes. There may be a few other non-daily members as well, but none that I can think of off the top of my head.

Didn't realize Pikeville had added editions, so I learned something today. But knew it had been an AP member for some time now. I also didn't know about Prestonsburg, but you're right because the lead story on its web site today is an AP story. I'm also not aware of any other non-daily print members. I know there are bi- or tri-weekly papers in Bardstown, Campbellsville and London that are not affiliated.

I have said that maybe BGP should take the award over to make it more legit. I think that If BGP made an official selection and called it something like "BGP Kentucky State Footbal MVP" that it would mean a whole lot more to the kids that recieve the award because they would know that they compeated against all the players in the state and not just the ones that had an AP guy who felt like voting this year. I think that you would find that the Mr. Football award would just fall to the wayside. I for one would just like to see all the kids have an opportunity for the award.

What does the GURU think?

If you have a problem with the way the process was carried out, you need to express your concerns to the Associated Press and their members across the state, starting with your local paper.

There are many that view the BGP team no more legit than the Herald Leader, Courier Journal, or the AP. I'm just glad there are 4 outlets that select a team and usually one of the 4 will cover most every kid that deserves some type of recognition. Honestly, how could anyone argue against Corey Robinson no matter how many AP members voted. If 40 AP members voted, I'd bet Robinson would still win in a landslide.

How many times would the winner of this award have been different than the one selected by the AP?

It's always interesting when people claim that someone should have gotten votes when even they agree that the correct winner was selected. There are no honorable mention votes in this award.

The AP leadership in Louisville is not what it once was, and the sports editors group no longer meets. That group is the one that started the Mr. Football award and made sure it was done correctly in the early years.

Now what makes you think for one minute that I have not done that. I think over the years I have said that I have spoke to them several times. They don't want to hear what I have to say regarding voting. It's their vote, and they can vote if they want, and for who they want, and if they don't want to they don't have to. You know what? They are exactly right. The bottom line is. It's not important to them. You for one should know that. I'm just suggesting that BGP have a "selection also. It appears you don't like my idea . Thats Okay also.

I have no problem with the selection of Mr. Robinson. I would have voted for him if I could have. "You state that there are many who......" That may be. You are the first that I have seen make that statement.

If you go back and look I have never disagreed with the winner. I would not do that on here even if I did disagree. I would not want to attempt to take anything away from the winner.

Of course, your approach may have something to do with that ... ;)

Bottom line ... it appears that some AP members take this process seriously and some don't.

I'm sure it does. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck 99.9% of the time it's a duck. I just look at their track record of voting on the polls each week and then the interest they have in Mr. Football and call it like most would see it. Please don't get me wrong. I think they are outstanding in reporting high school sports. I realize they don't get paid to vote and it does not put food on the table. They are over worked and under paid. I guess I'm just old school. If your going to do something that effects the lives of others you had better do it to the best of your ability. Times have changed. Maybe I need to lighten up and just not care.
