Great! Since you've spent all the time doing that research you know who the candidates are from that party, and as such will have no trouble taking the extra minute or two to read the ballot and pick out the names that you will clearly recognize from your research. :thumb:

My point is I want someone to study up first and make the decision based on their knowledge not because the option is there for them to begin with. That is why I am in favor of removing party affiliation from the ballot entirely along with the straight party option.

Indeed we could. I still don't see how my suggestion is a bad thing.

At the same time as far as I am concerned if we could disenfranchise the stupid, I would be a happy camper and we could leave the ballots alone.

Peprock made an interesting point in another thread, saying that straight ticket voting is a bad thing. I replied that I would support legislation that would remove the ability to press a button and vote straight ticket. Would you?

People deserve the government that they get. I will never use the straight ticket option even though I do not vote for Democrats as a general rule. This is a relatively silly issue, IMO. I would rather see everybody's energy spent on removing all taxpayer support of the two major parties' political apparatuses, including providing polling places for primary elections.

 

Let parties finance their own party activities. If Republicans and Democrats want to hold primary elections, let them rent space for polling places and voting machines of their own. The government should not be in the business of helping the parties maintain their stranglehold on power with taxpayer funds.

I said no, because I think you'd also have to eliminate party designations by the voter's name. Then most of the voters would be really confused!

 

I voted no, and I don't think eliminating the party designations or doing away with the parties would be so bad. It used to be that the parties stood for the same things and that isn't happening anymore.
