December 31, 200718 yr Billick is an offensive coach, as he never coached the defensive side of the ball on his way up the ranks... To add to this, he was the OC in Minnesota with Moss and company when they set the league scoring record (that was broke Sat. by the Pats)....

He allowed his Defensive coordinator, to run the show but was involved. On the other side of the ball, he's been less than stellar with numerous players, talent and schemes. He's nowhere close to a "great defensive mind"...

The defense got them to the Super Bowl and they won it for The Ravens. The Ravens haven't really had a decent QB. Troy Smith looked good, and may be there first true QB. They just need a coach that can develop this team around Smith and the defense.

December 31, 200718 yr No real surprise here, players weren't happy with him and next season would have been a disaster before it even started if he was brought back. Can't put all the blame on him with the injuries and so forth, but this team needed a change.
December 31, 200718 yr Brian Billick will NEVER be hired as a defensive coach. He has had very little to do with the teams success on that side of the ball for the last 10 or so years. The credit goes to coordinators like Marvin Lewis, Rex Ryan and others from a coaching standpoint. Lets be honest, though, most of the credit should go to Ray Lewis and Ed Reed for the defensive success of the franchise. Billick was a decent OC who happened to ride the Moss-Carter-Cunningham-Smith train to a head coaching position, but he has had no success offensively for 10 years in the league as a head coach. I'm not sure he would be a good pick up for an NFL team, but his charisma and experience may be good for a college team. He may want to take a year off and see what opens up collegiately next year. Just my opinion
