Ravens Brian Billick Fired

Featured Replies

Like others have said he is an offensive guy and has never been on the defensive side. It always blew my mind that he never got a QB while he was in Baltimore. I think he is a good coach and he is very intelligent/prepared. I honestly think that it was one of those situations where it was just time for a change. Sometimes you need something fresh. I think he will be scooped up pretty quick and I think the Ravens will get better so I think it's good for everybody involved.

Rex Ryan is the man running the defense. Little people realize it but he used to coach at Morehead.

And not much of one at that. Under Billick's reign, The Ravens offense never ranked above 16th in the NFL. He is headed to the college ranks or to a chair in front of a studio camera.

Just because his offense with the Ravens never turned into much, doesn't mean he doesn't have a great offensive mind. I mean I guess you think Marvin Lewis then is not that good of a defensive mind either, since his defense here has always sucked, while the offense has been the strong point. I know I would love to have him as the OC here in Cincy...

FC, I've watched the Ravens over the years and the offense, has struggled consistently, while the Defense has been much better and kept them in many games.

I know he was the OC and even had a book, regarding Offensive Plays if memory serves me but under his tenure in Baltimore, his schemes have been woeful.

I can't see him getting a label, of an outstanding Offensive mind and his teams struggling. His Defense has been the aspect, which has made the Ravens competitive, on a consistent basis and he's been the HC, under that tenure and that was my observation, on his ability.

Often we crown someone, as great, excellent or outstanding based off early success. Billick to me, hasn't impressed on the Offensive side. I would go further to say, they have been extremely disappointing.

I've actually got most of his offensive playbook when he was at Minn. The Ravens didn't run a lot of the stuff. I think he was a smart enough coach to know that he had one of the best defenses ever with a pounding running game so he played to his strengths instead of forcing the issue. To me that is good coaching. I think he has a good mind and is very prepared just time for a change.

Plus he could never get the right QB to fit his system in Baltimore. It's no coincidence that with McNair health last year, they were better...

Then why do people around the league consider Marvin Lewis a defensive Guru still? I mean I probably guarntee you that if Marvin got fired from Cincinnati today, teams would be jumping all over him to be their next defensive coordinator. I mean Marvin Lewis still holds that great defensive mind tag, yet his defenses I believe have almost got worst every single year he has been here. Yeah Brian Billicks offense has never been that great while he was there, and they also have never had a really good QB, or that good of receivers to throw to either. So both coaches he and Marvin Lewis have had teams now where what they are good at, have actually been the weak part of their teams. Maybe one of the reasons is in both cases, most of the money have been on the opposite side of the ball for both teams. So my question is, if you dont think Billick is a good offensive mind, then I guess you don't think Marvin is a good defensive mind then either?

Bengals is a different topic and I'm not a fan of them but seems they've had numerous players, come and go on defense, combined with injuries. Bengals problems to me, is more about distraction, lack of professionalism and too much, me, me, me....than Lewis.

As a HC, a big part of the obligation is to bring in or implement personnel, to carry out the scheme. Ravens have been bad on Offense and seems at times, he has stuck with a QB way too long. Billick may be known as an Offensive guy to many but the Ravens, haven't looked the part under his tenure.
