Good showing for the Cats!

The boys pulled some energy from somewhere, coming out on fire in the second half. I'll have stats later this afternoon.

A very nice showing against the 9th region teams. In talking to Coach Jones before the game, this just primes the pump for the All "A".

Congrats to the Wildcats on third place.

Nice job GC! Just shows, if you do not care who scores, who rebounds, not scared to put forth the effort to commit to stingy D and properly run offense and not worry who gets their name and pic in the paper you can do nice things! Hats off to the boys and staff @ GC.

You are so on the money! The kids on the floor see nothing but the blue or white jersey they are wearing that night. At least that's the way I see it.

Pictures might be in the Gallatin County News or any of the other local papers but certainly not the Northern Kentucky paper (sorry Cincinnati Paper).:lol::lol:

The area local papers, Gallatin County News, Madison Courier, etc. do a great job covering the local teams.

The big papers (sorry, paper):lol::lol: won't touch anything below US 42 in Florence.

I concur whole heartedly Buttels. If I didn't need to start campfires the Enquire would be useless. Ryan Eenst must have got beaten up in Warsaw once he's even afraid to pass through on I-71 when he goes to Louisville. I just wish I knew what we had done to him to make him hate us so.

Scoring by quarter:

Newport - 22 18 15 13 - 68

Gallatin Co - 15 22 30 17 - 84

Gallatin County scoring:

5 scorers in double digits:

Trent Maddox-24 (note: Enquirer neglected to mention Trent tied Housely w/24 points)

Taylor Jones-23

Zac Jones-12

Jared Carlton-10

David Henson-10

Aaron Jones-3

Josh Davis-2

Gallatin Co. connected on 4 three pointers and shot 14/18 from the free throw line.

Newport scoring:

3 scorers in double digits

Brandon Housley - 24

David Darnell - 15

Jamon Greene - 13

Casey McDaniel - 7

Anthony Luther - 6

Cody Collins - 3

Newport connected on 8 three pointers and were 4/7 from the free throw line.

I know Coach Jones has e-mailed him personally. He feels there is no reason to cover them since the amount of papers sold in Warsaw is so little.

The only time the Wildcats get coverage is when they play a team from the 9th region. I even commented to him (Ernst) at the All "A" last year that the Wildcats were finally going to be in the Enquirer when they played Brossart last year.

I will miss Terry Boemker. He knew how to cover these kids.

Another win for the Cats. It seems like these guys have put together a great season! They are the favorite for the "All A 8th" and will look to make a charge for the "All A" period. Good win against Newport. Keep it up boys.

First of all, congrats on a good start to Gallatin. I look for them to make some noise on the state level of the all "A". Hard nosed kids that are well coached, that's a nice combo.

That being said, why take the Enquirer to task here? I agree they make mistakes, many of them, but failing to give Gallatin coverage is not one of them. It is a business after all, and what does covering Gallatin give them from an advertising perspective? That's what I thought.

But, covering Gallatin would take away valuable inches from Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties, where the advertisers are. Thus alienating them. Makes no business sense at all.

Circulation has nothing to do with it, papers don't survive on the .50 per day they make per copy, that's just what someone may tell laymen. And Ryan Ernst doesn't decide who he should cover, that decision is made for him. I.E. don't blame him for Gallatin not being covered.

Finally, if you'll miss Terry so much, maybe you could at least spell his name correctly. :sssh:

:thumb: As much as I wish the team from Gallatin Cty much success I would have to agree with Sandmans assessment of the Enquirers and Ryan Ernst coverage of the Gallatin Cty athletic program.

Looks like the 3rd quarter sealed Newports fate. They seem to be playing alright this year I'll have to check them out.

Dont know much about Gallatin but from the scores Ive seen they look like a pretty darn good team. Is this a better year than normal for Gallatin or do they usually have this kind of success?

Gallatin was 19-10 2 years ago and 25-7 last season. Both seasons they won the All 'A' 8th Region and 31st District. They were eliminated in last year's All 'A' Classic at Richmond by eventual champ Brossart by 1 point.

In March they beat Shelby Co. for the school's 1st regional win since 1959. Simon Kenton knocked them off in the second round.

The juniors and seniors all played major minutes as freshmen and sophomores 2 years ago, so they are well seasoned. Plus 3 of their top 6 will return next year.
