June Buchanan and Elliott are the two best I think, but I see June winning the All A state.

June Buchanan should win the 14th, but Hazard has the talent to beat them if JBS has an off night.

I agree that Hazard can win on a given night. Coach Holland will definitely give the dogs the advantage in this matchup.

I've been trying to complile a list of the various regions and favorites so . . . if I've left some out, please feel free to add them in.

Class A Favorites 2008

1st:

2nd: University Heights

3rd:

4th:

5th:

6th:

7th:

8th: Gallatin

9th: NewCath, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Beechwood

10th: St. Pats, Deming, Brossart

11th: Lexington Christian

12th: Somerset, Danville

13th: Cumberland

14th: June Buchanan, Hazard

15th: Paintsville, Shelby Valley

16th: Elliott, Bath Co., Rose Hill

My belief is that Fairview is the only Class A school that has a remote chance of challenging Elliott in the Class A.

JBS and Hazard are the top teams in the 14th and the brackets have worked out to where they should play in the championship game. But JBS will probably have to go through Buckhorn, and Hazard would probably have to beat Cordia. Two teams that is good enough to beat you if you don't bring your A game.

9th may be as wide open as it's been in a while. Several have a shot this year, with much even competition at the top..........depends on who's playing well at the time

Nobody in 16th will stay within 20 of Elliott County.

Newport should be a favorite in their region, they have great athletes, but they are young! Watch out next year, and the year after if they all stay at Newport!

Beechwood gave up so many offensive rebounds against Newport it was as if they had never practiced blocking out! I am sure that is something their coaching staff will address before they play in the All A. Beechwood had a little more depth and better discipline than Newport! It will be a great rematch!

I like Unversity Heights because of Scotty Hopson one of the best in the nation just a good athelte. Elliott County any team that has a kid like Ferguson who dropped 18 points against Cov Cath in the 3rd quater is pretty good.

Have you seen Elliott's draw? Raceland is a vrey dangerous team, and if they get past that Rose Hill is capable of upsetting them. Then out of the lower bracket either Fairview or Bath will give them a close game. All five teams can potentially win.

I think Elliott is the favorite, of course, but I don't know if there is a good draw in this region.

Elliott beat Bath 99-55 at Home with Hicks holding the ball for the last 2 minutes of the game. If they play again I dont think Mays with have much sympathy for Bath this time. Elliott beat Raceland at East Carter 90-58 with Raceland playing there best half of basketball and hitting 8-11 3 pointers in the first half and was still down 9 points. The only chance Rose Hill has is to slow the game daown and keep it in the 40's and that wont happen.

They are a senior dominated team and very athletic. They have one of the best big men in the region, and very good guard play. I think if Elliott overlooks them they may be beat. I also think Mayes is smart enough not to overlook them.

I know that Elliott County got a look at Raceland already this year and they won't overlook this team because they did play Elliott close the first half, but could not stay with them the second as Elliott County won 90 to 58

If a 44 point margin exemplifies sympathy, I hate to see Mays coach without sympathy.

Bath Co. is playing much better for their new coach. Bath should give Elliott a better game should they meet in the Class A Region finals. That being said, I think Elliott is the team to beat for the All A, but don't count out June Buchanan, they were very pesky against a very good Mason Co. in the 5/3.

I'll take Gallatin County in the 8th only because the All A is played at Gallatin. Walton Verona will give them a game but the homecourt advantage will be too much for them to overcome.

Gallatin will need this homecourt advantage to beat WV, but in the end I think they can do it. Good Luck Wildcats!!!

WOW!!

Newport Central Catholic, Newport, Beechwood, and Holy Cross should be favorites in the their region, but they are all in the upper bracket. Newport did just beat Beechwood, but the Tigers gave up a ton of offensive rebounds for put backs, which I am sure the coaching staff will address before their next game. NCC is playing well, and Holy Cross plays a monster schedule. Should be interesting, and exciting basketball in Dayton.
