Highlands is only giving up 45 pts a game through 4 games. Newport did not manage many points vs. the Camels. I think Highlands shuts down the Cats on the road in the Cat's Den.

Not sure Newport breaks 40, not sure they break 30, wouldn't bet the house on 20.

Newport's young and don't seem to have alot of players that can score, add coach Schlarman's physical Def. and great front court players it may get out of hand. But, I have seen some strange things happen in the past when these two schools have met. Like in the district in baseball last year and some choice football games in the distant past. Is Newport missing a kid named Arkansas Brewer? Had heard his name on this board many times over the last few years, but haven't seen or heard anything of him recently.

 

I think he'd be a sophomore this year. Went to a school in Louisville last year for at least a bit, but then moved back to Newport. I thought he started this season as the football team's quarterback, but I haven't seen his name in any Newport box scores all year.

 

Did he move back to Louisville, if so what school is playing for? Did he get hurt in football and is missing time in basketball?

Brewer and Tucker are not at Newport High School any longer is the word I got. PM me and I can give you more info. Both would have been sophomores and some say Tucker was as good if not better than Brewer. That is a talented Sophomore class that could have been that much better with those two.

Early line has it at slightly even money that Jake Turner gets his first bucket of the season in this one. That is if the Sophomores will let him see the ball! (LOL). Heard Guidugli didn't even dress Varsity last game. What's up with that?

At the NCC game last week, the entire team dressed for the varsity game and it looked like a small army over there. On Tuesday night, there were only 11 dressed and Luke Stein will make 12. Why should Tony G. dress varsity? He has not played basketball since his freshman year. Jake Turner apparently played pretty well in the JV game and perhaps sometime down the road will be able to get some quality minutes. By the looks of things though, coach is going 8 deep right now.

 

As for the game tomorrow, look for another blowout followed by one on Saturday against Bishop Brossart. Birds should be undefeated going into the tourney next week.

Maybe but if you have those two in your lineup it makes them that much better from an athleticism standpoint. Team chemistry is another thing. Maybe not having them is making them better. Its ashame either way that kids make choices that take away priveleges that are out there for them.

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised Jake is playing basketball with the opprotunity he has coming his way in football next season. I figured he'd take the off-season to improve his football abilities. Don't get me wrong, I think he's first of all a great young man and secondly as terrific athlete. I'm totally surprised Guidugli is playing basketball. Talk about leaving the door wide open..........

Only 4 juniors on the Birds this season I believe and they all will probably be logging a lot of JV minutes. Nothing wroing with playing hoops and staying in condition. I dont see Turner or Guidugli moving down on the football depth chart just because they are not lifting in January anyway.
