Only 4 juniors on the Birds this season I believe and they all will probably be logging a lot of JV minutes. Nothing wroing with playing hoops and staying in condition. I dont see Turner or Guidugli moving down on the football depth chart just because they are not lifting in January anyway.

When/if their roles are defined by Willie, both Jake & TG can help the Bird's this year! I was surprised that HHS dressed all those kids and then chose a game where the kids could get in to reduce the bench???? If TG is being penalized for not playing last year, then the message is pretty clear that he's not wanted/needed. If it's just an "earn your PT" thing, then we'll see how bad he really wants to play hoops.

I don't think Newport will have an answer for the Birds powerful backcourt.

My bet is its the latter. Let him get some JV games under his belt and then let him dress down the stretch when they may need a bigger body to go in and get some fouls.

With regard to Turner,Guiduli, (and Grubbs for that matter)....... why is it assumed that they would or should walk off the football field and automatically play ahead of anyone? Last time I heard the sophmore class had established some pretty notable credentials. Perhaps the ones who have been practicing since October are simply better right now and deserve an opportunity of their own......... That being said, I think all three can be contributors at the varsity level this year but they are going to have to earn it from some others who are equally as talented. Good problem to have for coach Schlarman.....but I think he'll figure it out !

Ben played FB last year...did not play this year (a shame!). Looks like he's going to be a B2 player (Basketball-Baseball)! FB didn't seem to slow Dustin Giesler boy at NCC this year!

Highlands is only giving up 45 pts a game through 4 games. Newport did not manage many points vs. the Camels. I think Highlands shuts down the Cats on the road in the Cat's Den.

Not too hard to predict a Highlands game and Newport wasnt scoring much lately but I figured they would hit the 40's. Highlands cant get out of the 60's either. But that was pretty close.

The point was regarding certain underclassmen.........I didn't forget anyone, Watson has practiced since Oct and earned his position. Obviously senior players will assume their roles quicker or they wouldn't keep them on the team. Regarding Stein....he probably won't start right away, he'll have to earn it from a talented sophmore or bump a senior won't he!

I somewhat agree with you. Willie may not want to bust up the chemistry of having the two starting sophomores on the floor. Bring in Stein for some muscle off the bench. No need to feel the need to start him if they are playing fine with Watson in there. I think they will definitely need Stein on the floor come District and Regionals though.
