Cats not lacking drama as fans have little patience for Gillespie

Featured Replies

I thought this summed up the mood on BGP for UK basketball rather nicely. I really think Story is on here as reading the threads.

The fans. My biggest surprise of the Kentucky season so far has not involved Gardner-Webb. It's been how little patience I've sensed toward Gillispie.

Maybe the Kentucky fandom just became used to arguing constantly during the Great Tubby debates of 2006 and '07. Maybe the pro-Tubby elements of the fan base are simply giving the ATB (the Association of Tubby Bashers) some of their own medicine by harshly critiquing Gillispie right out of the box.

Wherever I go in the commonwealth, I'm not sensing much patience with the basketball Cats.

When it comes to honeymoons, Britney Spears' lasted longer after marrying her childhood friend Jason Alexander than Billy G. has gotten from many UK fans.

And you'll recall, Brit's first marriage ended after 55 hours.

I agree with him, I think it's mostly the fans who liked Tubby better than the team, the overobsessed Tubby fans, that are criticizing BCG now. Everyone else has enough sense to give him a couple years to get things right.

I have noticed several things in the past that I saw on BGPreps and then noticed in Story's articles.

And for the record, I think he's hit the nail on the head with this one.

I'd disagree. Its the "average UK blowhard fan" who is complaining. As a bunch, they're not very intelligent.

:thumb: We do have a lot of fans that fit this profile.

I am not criticizing Billy G. Shorthanded roster plus him breaking the players down to build them back up. He is a great recruiter and a very good bench coach. I have watched his A & M teams the last two years and they were a team you dreaded to play. Very tough mentally, hard nose man-to-man D, and would push the ball up the floor. When they had to run offensive sets, they were very fluid. He will have the ship righted sooner than later.

It may be silly of me to say this, but I say we at least give him a year to get his system in place.

I'll offer my first critique of BCG in the fall of '09.

Agreed.

Whoever had high expectations of this group was just being plain silly.

Whoever still had high expectations after all the injuries is just delusional.

I still hold out hope for a NCAA appearance but not counting on one and really just looking forward to see how this team progresses.

to me this is the tell tale sign of how good a coach BCG will be. In his short beginning, he landed some good recruits, he seems to have a good work ethic, now lets see how he can develop players and coach the game.

I am hearing (speculation), that Kentucky is also in the running for Scotty Hopson. Any truth that someone may know for sure? Also, heard on WLAP that UK is going after a top notch JUCO Post Player,(can't remember his name), who is 6-9 240 and very athletic.

You know what they say about the intelligence/common sense of people in large groups ... ;)

Have to admit that this is exactly what I expected. Most UK fans are like spoiled children --- they figure if they're not seeing the same performance as Rupp's teams showed back in the day, it's time to fire the coach.

I agree. UK fans will have to be patient with this team and new coach.

I can't believe that people are already doing this to Coach Gillispie. It's going to eventually come to a time when no one will want to coach this team.

UK is my home team and I hate to see them lose. I don't think there is very much BCG can do with what he has. I do think that in the future he will do just fine if given a chance. Whats wrong with hard work outs they just get remove the players that don't want to stay in the first place, and the ones you have left are going to stay with you through anything which is what you want in the first place. Thats my opinion anyway. It will take him or anyone else a few years to build the program up to what they have been.
