December 7, 200718 yr I believe the hand of God probably through the Holy Spirit directed the writing of the Bible. So, no bias. In a sense, it is autobiographical. Also, if the disciples wrote the book, they come across looking HORRIBLE in the book. Wouldn't they not have made themselves look so bad? Wouldn't Peter say, how about playing down that whole rooster crowing 3 times thing or the time Jesus called me Satan. I do not believe in a Centralized Church telling me what to do. I believe that most of what you listed was done by the Catholic Church. I do not subscribe to their teachings on many, many issues. Except, I believe they believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God is our Lord and Savior and are my fellow Christian brothers. #4, I believe Satan is the father of all lies and is very good at what he does. I believe he has people working in his cause, maybe unknowingly to them, to lead people astray. I think we see this a lot in NT where we hear warnings of false prophets and teachers that are trying to lead us astray. And thus, it calls on us to directly study and listen to what the Bible says in it's entirety and not let people lead us astray by pulling out parts and using only that or creating doctrine of what they want to believe (all roads lead towards Heaven and God is going to save us all in the in and there is no such thing as Hell as examples). #5, I believe God was directing the writing of the Bible. And if I cannot believe one statement from Christ and from God, then it is ALL in question. If not, than again it becomes LBBC's view and vision of what in the Bible to live by and what not to live by. Not sure what your equations mean. But I don't believe in being religious but rather have my faith direct my life. Yes, that is the typical statement but in life it is different. If you child's teacher tells them to go jump off a bridge. what should they do? question the authority? or do what we're told? I'm simply saying that it is difficult to come to a concensus on any type of religion because there aren't the facts that people want in there everyday life. You get on this message board knowing that no one could say or do anything that would change or mind or your beliefs. When in life, people are told to be open minded. In life people are told that Muslims are the anti-Christ & they have attacked us over & over. When in reality who attacked, who first? Crusades again when we went to take there land.
December 7, 200718 yr first, he thumbed his nose at UN sanction so we invade. If they were UN sanctions the something needed to be done by them or at least more countries than just us. regarding abortion (even though it is apples & oranges) Abortion is not something that I agree personally about but I dont make decisions for anyone else. I think people can run their lives better than me trying to rule them. If someone gets raped, I feel that they should be able to get an abortion. Since, I support that part, how can I completely be opposed to all abortions. Roe vs. Wade determined that a citizen has right @ birth so unborn children don't have the same rights. If this was overturned it would also cause many other problems. Hence, if a mother falls, takes drugs, drink alchohol, take prescription medication, etc and it kills the unborn baby & the unborn baby is considered a living being with the same rights as you or me, the mother will be punished. Do you really think we're ready to address that can of worms? here is my word of life: TOLERANCE!! I have my views and others have their own. Mine are no more important than anyone elses. While my God is important to me & Christians; I am not willing to Word Filter ViolationWord Filter ViolationWord Filter ViolationWord Filter Violation anyone to hell that follows Yahweh, Buddha, Allah, etc. They will be judged the same way that I will. I am Judge nor juror!!! You've been watching Joel Osteen haven't you?

In life people are told that Muslims are the anti-Christ & they have attacked us over & over. When in reality who attacked, who first? Crusades again when we went to take there land. Well if you go all the way back isn't it thought that Muslims were descendants of Cain? If that turns out to be accurate, than they did. On more of a serious note, I would answer them the same way I would address the slavery issue. I nor any member of my family that I know participated in the Crusades. If the reason you flew two planes into the WTC, drove a boat of explosives into the side of a ship, bombed the WTC, drove a van of explosives into a Marine compound, consistently go into crowded places and blow yourself up, is the Crusades that happened, what 500 years ago, dude we got to get you past this. My mind and opinion on things have been altered. P & P is a good example. Presently, in the death penalty debate, I am considering several things that people have posted as my view is changing/morphing/or might end up being stronger. My faith, as it is, as grown stronger in a lot of areas because of BGP. My knowledge of Catholicism has grown 1000 fold since I joined BGP and the debates. So, open minded does not mean that I cannot be firm in my beliefs, just to listen and consider. Do you want me to come on here and say, "Well, I don't know, maybe your right, maybe they are right, maybe we are all right," when Jesus is pretty straight forward with I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one will know the Father without knowing the Son. I ask again, do you believe the above or discount the words of Jesus Christ? I answered your question and would appreciate you to do the same.
December 7, 200718 yr You've been watching Joel Osteen haven't you? I am going to his show in February.
December 7, 200718 yr I am going to his show in February. Don't ask him how to get to heaven, you'll get a form letter!
December 7, 200718 yr Well if you go all the way back isn't it thought that Muslims were descendants of Cain? If that turns out to be accurate, than they did. Actually, wouldn't Muslims be just like us...descendants of Adam-Seth...Noah...I mean if God destroyed everyone on the earth except Noah and his family, how could there be ANY descendants of Cain left?
December 7, 200718 yr Actually, wouldn't Muslims be just like us...descendants of Adam-Seth...Noah...I mean if God destroyed everyone on the earth except Noah and his family, how could there be ANY descendants of Cain left? Great point and you have changed my mind. Thought that didn't happen on BGP.:D
December 8, 200718 yr If I Wrote what I actually thought I would get Suspened so I'll just keep my mouth shut and stay out of it... But I am really Mad at this point and I would write some very bad things if I posted what i thought.
December 8, 200718 yr This has been a good discussion. I love to hear other views and reasons for why people say and think the way that they do. thanks guys!
December 11, 200718 yr If I Wrote what I actually thought I would get Suspened so I'll just keep my mouth shut and stay out of it... But I am really Mad at this point and I would write some very bad things if I posted what i thought. Is it what you want to post that would get you suspended, or how you would post it? I hope that you are able to share your thoughts. I enjoy hearing other people's feelings on matters such as these, especially when they are passionate about it (as it sounds like you are).
December 11, 200718 yr Actually, wouldn't Muslims be just like us...descendants of Adam-Seth...Noah...I mean if God destroyed everyone on the earth except Noah and his family, how could there be ANY descendants of Cain left? How did this thread go from Nuclear Weapons to the descendants of Adam-Seth.....??
December 13, 200718 yr Agreed, But I am never for cutting down the rain forest. Let me get this straight . . . you are not for cutting down the rain forest but in a previous post you say you are for killing babies? That is just wrong.
December 13, 200718 yr ^If just one part is wrong, then the whole book is discredited. It means an omniscient God wasn't able to preserve His word... I think most people are aware that the Bible can be misinterpreted. And, it can be (mis)used to promote evil causes by false teachers...that doesn't make the Bible wrong. People can find verses to support their cause by deceiving people and steering them away from other scripture that would contradict what they're saying, or shed light on the correct interpretation...and we can constantly argue over some of the tougher, more difficult and not so clear scriptures. Again, that does not make the Bible wrong, IMO. There are many more verses that are plain and simple, loud and clear as opposed to hard to understand, IMO...when Jesus says he is the only way and there is no other way, there is no misunderstanding that. Either you believe it or you don't. It can't be explained away as a difficult verse. So says you, not me. I do not hold to plenary verbal inspiration as you seem to. In fact I believe any errors do not invalidate all of any body of work. I'm sorry your faith isn't large enough to take that but mine is. BTW, which version is the inerrent one? The original autographs? Fine. But it's only a theory because we don't have any of those. Is it the one in front of you? Even the greatest biblical inerrentists recognize that there are discrepencies between some accounts (see the Criswell Bible). Is it the KJV? Is it Codex Vaticanus or Sinaticus? What do you do with Mark 16:9-20 which doesn't appear in the two oldest manuscripts of Mark that predate the others by some 300 years?

You read it, interpret it, and go join a private church that handles snakes and drinks poison.
