How about setting your watch/alarm, or anyone's watch for that matter, 15 minutes?

Typically, the the officials will give a "3 and 3" sign to the teams. "3 and 3 means you have 3 minutes to get on the field and 3 minutes to warm up. However, the referee will give this to the first coach looking person that they encounter close to the door of the locker room. In college the offiicial stays there and walks the team out. I don't know the situation that happened on Friday but I gotta believe that a 3rd round game crew sent someone to tell them, whether that was an assistant coach who failed to convey that to the head man. I agree with X grad that the liability issue of not warming up. I don't want to speculate as to where it broke down since I wasn't there.

I will tell you that football coaches that are trailing are not the happiest people in the world and putting a delay of game penalty on top of it probably will scratch the officials from Coach Simpsons Christmas card list.

I was not aware that half-time notice to teams by the Officials was protocol or the practice. Some games that I am familiar with such was never done. Teams could go to locker rooms 1/2 mile apart or one stay out on the field while the other went in. It was my understanding Officials will wait on the field for both teams to have completely vacated the field for halftime. At that point they signal the Press box\Timer to begin the running half time clock, which upon expiration then automatically goes to the 3 minute mandatory warm-up period.
