I have to agree with Beechnut on this one. Lots of former Tigers coming in from college will be there. I have a lot of family that will be in town and will come as well. This should feel more like the playoffs we remember.

I must say, Hearsay, that you give a pretty accurate scouting report on LHC. I think you highlight their strenghts, and yes, their weaknesses as well. I have not seen Beechwood play, yet I have heard that they have given some strong teams in the Covington/Cincinnati area all that they want. I hope the game is well played. Beechwood would have to be the favorite with their record alone. I will give my vote for the hope of a Holy Cross upset.

 

LHC has a very talented Qb named Jimmy Nauert, who can move around, has a strong arm, and a lot of talent. He is a junior, has been starting since he was a freshmen. When under pressure, he will force throws. When he gets in a rhythm he can be very good.

 

LHC always has a kid named McDermott and a kid named Nail. This year's version of those two is not quite as good as predecessors. McDermott is a good defensive player.

 

They have a fullback named Greg Raney who is very emotional and will lose his temper.

 

They have a pretty good TE, about 6'2", named Schum.

 

LHC is always very big and very strong. They average maybe 250 or so on the offensive line. However, this year's lineman are not quite as athletic as LHC has had in year's past and have trouble sustaining blocks.

 

They will mix it up offensively. Defensively, if you have enough passing game to keep them from charging, they become flat.

 

The key with any big win over Holy Cross the past few years has been physicality. When teams right off the bat hit them in the mouth and don't take their shots, then LHC loses steam. They are a very emotional team and try to get very charged out right out of the gate. If you stun then very quickly, it will be no problem. If you allow them to gain steam they can be veyr tough.

Holy Cross has never won a region title game and that streak will not end in this one. Beehcies name the score.

actually...Holy Cross was one game away from a State Championship in 4-A in 1987. They beat Male 14-13 in the 1st round (there were only 4 rounds of playoffs then) then beat St. Xavier 7-0 in the second round, which I believe at the time was called "regional championship", they then lost to Shelby Co. 14-7 in the semi-state. Shelby went on to beat Boone for the 4-A title the following week.

 

But they won't win Friday.

Wasn't that the game Holy Cross was leading very late in the game and decided to go for it on 4th down around midfield instead of punt? They were stopped and Danville then scored a TD with a few seconds left to take home the hardware.
