November 15, 200718 yr How many privates are left is kind of a stat that doesn't tell the whole story both ways. When Holy Cross and NewCath play this week one will be eliminated and one will go on. Same thing with CAL and DeSales. In NKY: There are 0 privates in 6A so none can be left. There is 1 in 5A and 1 is left. There is 0 in 4A so none can be left. There is 0 in 3A so none can be left. There is 2 in 2A and 2 are left. There is 1 in 1A and 0 are left. So you can say there 4 privates schools in NKY and 3 are left. Or you can say there out of the 8 reamining schools only 3 are privates. If all the favorites win this week there will be just 1 private left. Actually you could claim that it is the same old teams left in NKY whether they be private or public. Remind me again how many different teams appeared in the Class A State Championship game in the 7 years from 2000 to 2006? Hint: The same 4 and only 1 is private.
November 15, 200718 yr How does Manual do teaching kids with learning disabilities? How about kids with autism? The academic performance of a school is about more than the number of national merit scholars.Manual's ECE program teaches students with a wide range of disablities, in addition to your normal mix of milder LD problems smattered throughout the general student population.
November 16, 200718 yr And as far as a tight race or being lapped, you tell me: X- 8 National Merit Semifinalists T- 10 National Merit Semifinalists M- 41 National Merit Semifinalists That's impressive. Now I understand why there are no disciplinary issues at Manual.
November 16, 200718 yr And as far as a tight race or being lapped, you tell me: X- 8 National Merit Semifinalists T- 10 National Merit Semifinalists M- 41 National Merit Semifinalists Be careful 02. Testing companies specifically tell schools not to use these kinds of stats to measure the performance of a school..:sssh:

November 17, 200718 yr I think T.U.T. would still be king. (Yeah I know, lame joke and I apologize in advance) well...when it comes to football it wouldn't be king, we know who has that role!!
November 17, 200718 yr And as far as a tight race or being lapped, you tell me: X- 8 National Merit Semifinalists T- 10 National Merit Semifinalists M- 41 National Merit Semifinalists How many of those 41 National Merit Semifinalists are girls? The last several years it has been at least 2/3 if not 3/4 girls to boys.
November 17, 200718 yr bThere is only the barest minimum of a dress code, many students have piercings and hair colors which are banned from the private schools, the students have greater freedom of expression. It's a much more liberal learning enviornment. So what you are saying that me, as a Republican, would not be looked at in a great light down there, huh?
November 17, 200718 yr Manual's ECE program teaches students with a wide range of disablities, in addition to your normal mix of milder LD problems smattered throughout the general student population. We do have some more severe cases than mild, though that is a different conversation. To me Manual is tops academically....where we CAN compete with them on that level, is our diversity, that is something that ZERO of our "bretherin" can claim.
November 17, 200718 yr Looks like its now 6 of 48, including the 2 largest schools in the state; hardly private school domination??
November 19, 200718 yr Author Update : OHIO 7/24 survivors are non-public. (6 divisions) KENTUCKY 6/48 (6 divisions) INDIANA 4/10 (5 divisions) At a quick glance here are thre breakdowns overall:These are approximate. Ohio 132 of 830 are private (16%) have won 47% of state football titles since 1972 Indiana 16 of 317 Kentucky 15 of 253
November 19, 200718 yr How many of those 41 National Merit Semifinalists are girls? The last several years it has been at least 2/3 if not 3/4 girls to boys.I'm pretty sure it's been a MUCH slighter majority... this year looks pretty even: http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:Wa2mUBiqgQUJ:www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article%3FAID%3D/20070917/NEWS01/709170407/1008+national+merit+kentucky+manual+trinity+semifinalists+2007&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1 I think my senior year we outnumbered the ladies. You may be thinking of general population of the school, which is 3 girls for every 2 guys.
November 19, 200718 yr So what you are saying that me, as a Republican, would not be looked at in a great light down there, huh? This made me laugh... my senior year, in my AP Government Politics class, I sat at the "Republican table" despite my moderate ideas. But to answer your question, so long as you could defend your beliefs with solid and articulate arguments, you'd be respected if not agreed with.
December 9, 200718 yr You're right Ram, those stats suggest an inherent private advantage in football. And, its not fair for the Butler and Seneca's of the world to have to play X and T. Maybe once every 50 years will those schools be cabable of beating the Tigers and Rocks. But think about this hypothetical: Xavieran Bros. sell Saint X high school and all of its assets on Poplar Level Rd. to the Jeffferson County Public School System--the school is now called Tiger Ultra Traditional. All former teachers, administrators, and coaches are retained--many receive state merit pay raises. This will represent Jefferson County's first experiment with an ALL BOYS high school since the 1950's. The focus of the school will be on educating young men of all backgrounds under a rigid system of discipline and academics. Dress code stays the same, dress pants and tie every day. Service to the community, 40 hours, is required to graduate. If successful, they plan on purchasing Assumption or Sacred Heart for girls. Religious education is eliminated. Tuition is free. There are no feeder middle schools designated. Enrollment is open to all boys in Jefferson County. You must take a 1/2 day entrance exam to become accepted. This is needed in order to place the student in the appropriate academic program. Enrollment is limited to 500 new students per year. If more than 500 apply, first come first serve. If 501 applications arrive the same day, one is randomly drawn out and placed on a waiting list. Question: Do you think Butler and Seneca and whoever will fare any better against Tiger Ultra Traditional? Would students planning to play sports have to have a bonafide change of residence to enroll?
