Think I heard one of the analyst say that UM seniors hadn't beaten OSU. If thats true (which i think it is if i remember right), no way Hart lets them lose. Look for him to have a great game, even though he's been banged up. I usually never feel that Michigan will win this game, but I take them this year, Jake Long and Hart came back to school to win a title and beat OSU. Well, the title went out the window in week 1, so this will define their senior season, and their careers to some extent. Michigan 28 OSU 24.

 

Oh, and just another opinion. UM and OSU has become the biggest rivalry in college football over the last few years. Most years atleast one of them is a title contender, and the analyst build it up more than any other rivalry. I do miss how big FSU and Miami used to be, was it even on National TV this year??

It's only the biggest rivalry to OSU and Michigan fans and maybe Big 10 fans. Ask Texas/Oklahoma, Mississippi State/Ole Miss, Clemson/South Carolina, Army/Navy, Alabama/Auburn or several other fans what is the biggest rivalry and you'll get a bunch of different answers. During the 80's and 90's this game was far behind Oklahoma/Nebraska, Florida State/Miami, Alabama/Auburn and Tennessee/Florida for national prominence. The game is only HUGE nationally when both teams are title contenders. Otherwise its just another big, late season rivalry game along with 5-6 others that are much more important to the fans of the respective teams than to the rest of the country.

 

Watched the HBO documentary on the OSU/UM series. They said that the one thing that really sets apart this rivalry is that it occurs at the same time every year. I'd agree that if you ask across the nation, you'll get different responses, but even in the late '80 and early '90's this was THE game. OSU took a couple of undefeated squads into the game during that time and lost (thank you John Cooper) and Michigan won a national title. It's not about who is good at the time, its about a historical perspective. My grandfather hates the Buckeyes, his father hated the buckeyes, and I hate the buckeyes. I don't think the same can be said for some of the rivalries you mentioned.

-Michigan leads the series all time 57-40-6.

 

-The 2006 game was the first time that Ohio State and Michigan met ranked #1 and #2 in the country.

 

-Only three times in history has the matchup pitted the two against each other with perfect records on the last game of the regular season. In 1970 OSU (8-0) and Michigan (9-0) met in Columbus, with the Buckeyes winning 20-9. Ohio State went on to lose to Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Then in 1973 OSU (9-0) traveled to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan (10-0), and the game ended in a 10-10 tie. Controversially, Ohio State was selected as the Big Ten's candidate to travel to the Rose Bowl, where they defeated USC. In 2006, Ohio State and Michigan met with both having 11-0 records.
