November 12, 200718 yr I've got to disagree with you Hearsay, because as LBBC said, the sign almost always say, XX MPH when lights flashing. I just looked at the one outside my office and 20MPH lights up only when the lights are flashing. That is what I believe as well.
November 13, 200718 yr I would think that a lower speed limit (and thus the possibility of receiving a ticket) would be in effect if EITHER the lights are flashing OR if school is in session. In a perfect world this two things would be one in the same, but the reality is that they are not. I would think that the actual presence of students should be the deciding factor. Thus if the lights are flashing on Dec 26, no ticket should be issued.
November 13, 200718 yr You should only get a ticket if the lights are flashing...Those are usually peak traffic times around the school, such as the beginning and end of school.

BUT, in KY you have many school districts that have 1/2 day kindergartens and they are coming and going before and after noon. Add in vocational school buses for HS. And then you have parents and students coming and going throughout the day for tardies and early dismissals.

I'm pretty sure that the lights flash during the middle of the day for the kindergarten switch, I'm not positive though.

November 13, 200718 yr ^^^ The sign on the left seems to make more sense. I think it would be silly to give a ticket for flashing lights if there is no school that day.

November 13, 200718 yr Ticket stands. Judge might cut you a break depending upon record. The light is not what makes it valid, its the zone itself, which is otherwise marked. Like the stop sign hidden by the tree branch, or the light that went out because of power failure. Also agreed. Unless you know the judge:sssh::sssh:
November 14, 200718 yr Apparently, I was incorrect with my earlier post. An officer friend told me it is only enforced when lights are flashing, which is why they are not on in the summertime. Traffic laws must be uniform and not everyone can know when school is in session. Thus the need for lights. I stand rebuked.

I don't know about your school but students are present at the school my child attends till 8:00P.M. on most evenings, for late practices and things of that nature.....if you go by that one you better just go the lower speed limit all the time to avoid even the chance of a ticket. Seriously you can slow down it will not change your arrival time that much, slow down, enjoy life and let the police keep their citations.
