Rudi a great back?

Featured Replies

:thumb: I'm not saying Rudi is better than Dillon, just that, like Dillon, he is past his prime. How many years does he have left on his contact (and how many years did Dillon have when Rudi replaced him)?

I didn't mean to come off like I was trying to argue with you...your post just made me think of Dillon (probably because you mentioned him) and I felt like pointing out the differences between the two...I also was a huge Corey Dillon fan. I always felt like he would have been talked about as one of the best backs in the NFL if he'd been on a better team. :thumb:

And for the 35 games prior to this season???

Because he runs a 5.3 40?

He has been a great back for the Bengals and has been a very consistent back. Look back at all your fantasy drafts the past 3-5 years he was always top 10. He has a bad hamstring and the team is not playing well. At least call him out when he's healthy.

If you had a broken leg I wouldn't judge you in a 5k

Is he on the back half of his career yes. You should know RB's have the shortest lifespan in the NFL. I just don't think its right to call a guy out who has done so much for the team. But I wasn't one of the ones booing Corey either when he left.

He has not been or ever will be a great back for the Bengals. Corey Dillon though was a great back for the Bengals. Rudi got the yards and tds he did because of this passing offense. Teams were more worried about slowing down Chad, TJ and Palmer than Rudi. As I have said before we could have put almost any average runningback in our backfield, and they could have probably put up atleast around the same numbers as Rudi...Dillon on the other hand if he was in his prime when we finally got a passing game, would have just torn up the NFL....

For all you who love those speed backs... Maybe we can sign Trung Candidate who never made it... or trade for some fast guy who is 3rd on the depth chart on most teams. Speed is not everything.. I rather have a guy who has vision and just quickness. I watched Shaun Alexandera play 4 years at BC and 4 at Bama and many years in Seattle.. he was NEVER fast... thats why Eastern and UK turned him down. He turned out ok.

As soon as you all come to terms that he is not LT or Adrian Peterson you will be better off. Rudi has been very productive. You guys just don't appreciate him which is ridiculous. But I am sure these are the same people who turned on Corey too.

30 carries. 28 yards...

Only when he became ineffective...

I'm glad I got you to come around. One thing is for certain. Numbers NEVER lie.

Post his numbers as a Bengal... lets see if the good out weighs the bad. You guys are quick to go after a guy who has been injured. He is approaching the back half of his career but to act like he doesn't belong in the league is insane.

Maybe you missed the memo but football at the NFL level, and especially at RB, is a game played in the now. This trend started last year with a very low YPC, and is getting worse by the day...

LT is averaging 4.2 this year.. Rudi finished with 3.8 last year. Not as big of a stat as you are blowing it up to be. He is the least of our concerns. You might wanna take a look at the D if you wanna point fingers. He also wouldnt be so beat up if he didnt carry so much of a load over the past 3 years, but nobody comments on that.

Or maybe his weight loss to become more "explosive" made him less, oh I don't know, powerful. Why did he feel the need to be more explosive? Because he couldn't run away from you longer than 20 yards...

He was never a speed back, always more of a guy up the middle falling forward for about 3 yards.

And the leaner meaner Rudi is falling forward to the LOS...

I think it was Mike Florio who had a perfect description of Rudi.

He can turn a 1 yard run into a 15 yard run.

He can turn a 50 yard run into a 15 yard run.

No chance he'll approach Dillon's level.

Never thought about that...

I give Rudi credit for what he's done in Cincy. I do think he's benefitted from the passing offense around him for sure, but he's also been a solid, dependable back. His vision has always been pretty good and he's been a nice complement to Chad, TJ and Carson. His battering ram style and his knack for always gaining yards, moving the chains and keeping the Bengals out of long yardage situations was good for them.

However, I never felt he was in the upper echelon of NFL runners. The problem is the shelf life for NFL backs is short and Rudi has been a real workhorse over the past three seasons...logging as many, if not more, carries than any other backs over that span. Only the really special ones can do that for an extended period of time, and I don't think Rudi fits that description. If the O-line isn't playing at a high level and the passing game isn't hitting on all cylinders, he isn't going to do much. Cincy got the best of Rudi, and I doubt we'll see anything close again.

One other thing...Rudi was often used to pound the ball late in games when the Bengals were protecting leads and defenses were tired...now that isn't happening. I think that's another reason his production has hit rock bottom.

The Bengals need an upgrade and to be honest, if they can't get an elite D-lineman in the draft next year, I'd love to see them get McFadden.
