Casino's in KY

How in the world is the stock market tied into moral decay?

I was wondering the same thing.:thumb:

I think we will see them in Lexington, Bowling Green, Louisville and Newport. I wouldn't rule out Ashland but that is the farthest shot at one at this point I'd say.

The stock market is nothing more than gambling. I don't get the whole moral decay thing? Is our society that fragile? I think some people have watched "Back To The Future II" a few too many times!

Casino's and gaming in this state is a horrible idea. I can only hope that they keep them out of eastern KY. The majority of people here will throw every dime of their "government assistance" down the drain! And for the people who argue this statement, I ask this simple but serious questions: Have you ever driven by one of the local Bingo halls? If you have, you understand why casino's in this state are a bad idea! :thumb:

While this is a radical comparison, I will say that I tend to lean towards what you believe, as well. The stock market is gambling on business, sports betting is gambling on sports, horse betting is gambling on horses, and casino betting is betting on various games. I agree with you.

I have had several people indicate to me that they routinely are cashing paychecks and the like at bingo.

Also, people are in there spending lots of money while their children are on free lunch at school.

That is not a positive.

So you consider opening your own business as gambling?

You do realize when you buy into the stock market, you are basically buying into the ownership of a business.

When you buy into the stock market, you no more own the business then your pet dog. When you buy into the stock market you're taking a gamble that the businesses you purchased stock in will be successful and show growth that will make you money.

When you bet on sports, you're taking a gamble that the team you bet on will win and make you money.

What's the difference?

Nowhere near a done deal. Don't underestimate the power of the Bible belt. People wanting to vote on it doesn't mean they will vote yes.

Seems like I heard that same line around 1987 when the Lottery was first introduced by Wally Wilkinson. It passed overwhelmingly.

Very well said!

So, those dividends paid to the stockholders are what? I was always taught that the stockholders of a corportation was the owners. Are you saying they are not? Because you need to contact a bunch of business textbook authors to have that changed.

Now, you might not be a vocal or a major part of the ownership. To that I would agree.

The fundamental concept is the same in my mind. You buy into a business hoping the stock will rise so you make a profit. I will double down on a 10 when the dealer shows a 4 so I can win and profit. If you are a smart investor you will profit, if you are a careless investor you will lose. If you are a smart gambler you will still probably lose, but it will be a lot more fun and you get a free buffet!

Not a positive at all my friend.

You're probably right. Once again the people in the eastern part of the state are going to be shafted. They will have to drive farther to loose everything they have, and ruin their lives.

People view casino gambling quite a bit differently than the lottery. They did then and they do now.
