Seems like I heard that same line around 1987 when the Lottery was first introduced by Wally Wilkinson. It passed overwhelmingly.

Casinos have been paraded about as a key point to solve an economic problem in this state.

 

Lotteries were touted the same for funding of education.

 

How did that work out when you go to gambling to solve an economic problem?

Wow, I NEVER venture into this forum and probably wont ever again but the nauseating ammount of conservative statements have me shaking my head, "moral decay", "not in my state'', Ok so you'd rather see your tax dollars go to other states? I mean IF and thats a big IF casinos pass in KY they will be on the Ohio in towns like, Paducah, Louisville, Henderson, NKY, which...coincidently all have casinos in neighboring IL and IN. So your saying that 1 mile shorter drive for the residents of the great state of KY will send us in to Moral Decay? Give me a break...

You're probably right. Once again the people in the eastern part of the state are going to be shafted. They will have to drive farther to loose everything they have, and ruin their lives.

 

 

I don't know, I've heard some grumblings about the riverfront in Maysville. That would cut down on the drive somewhat.

 

On a serious note, I have a problem with lotteries and expanded gambling when they are touted as a salvation for the economy. Come on, if that's all you've got how sad is that?:irked:

I don't think anyone would call me a conservative in this forum, but as to your logic - if Ohio legalizes crack should Kentucky do likewise to keep revenue dollars in the state?:confused: "Everybody else is doing it" doesn't make it right.

Apples and Oranges my friend, but if you want to do that, I'll play devils advocate, sure why not? I'm a firm believer in Darwinism, if you can't control your own actions or addictions, thats your problem. There's alcoholics everywhere, but I still enjoy a few cocktails, as well as I enjoy going to a casino from time to time. It shouldnt be the masses job to police and monitor the addictions of weak minded people who cant control themselves...

Yup and there's always going to be degenerates everywhere, I personally rather see the dollars that they gamble away going to improve KY schools, roads, government workers pay, etc etc than IN and IL reaping the benifits of Kentucky citizens

The point is why should Rocket and myself be denied the opportunity to spend our money at the casino just because some other poor sap is either too stupid or too irresponsible (or both) to know his own limitations and exercise self control and personal responsibility?

Sure sounds like welfare to me. If the situation with the poor sap is that bad, then maybe the wife and kids need to send a message to the poor sap. Again, personal responsibility.
