We are going ot have 6 outfielders that could start on alot of teams that we are going to waste because there isnt enough room for all of them on the field. November 4, 200718 yr I'm fully confident they would be better if they had the exact same team as last year. This team is made up of younger players for the most part. You have to give them a chance to develop. Plus, the Reds have some very impressive prospects who will be ready in 1-2 years so why go after aging veterans who will want 6 million per year when you can compete in the worst division in baseball while saving money for the extensions of the heart and soul of the team. Players like Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips, Edwin Encarnacion, Homer Bailey and Jay Bruce will all demand big money, but they are all players the Reds need to keep around if they want to win and you can't do that by wasting money on aging, overpriced veterans. Pitching has not improved. nough said!

So do you want to go out and spend 13 million a year on an Eric Milton type pitcher, because the market is thin and thats what you'd get. The Reds have pitching prospects 1-2 years away, why waste money on Free Agents when you can use that and lock up a solid core of current players and let your prospects develop. In case you havent noticed, the Reds don't have the kind of money as the yankees, red sox, cubs, white sox, cadinals, dodgers and so forth. You have to look at the model the Twins are setting. They develop players from within and don't go spending money on overpriced players. The Reds are getting there. The previous GM left the farm system very dry and it is rebuilding. Give it time, small market teams don't win every year. A perfect example of that is Florida, they would win a world series with home grown players then they traded them because they would become overpaid, then they did it all over again.

And I think they let Gosling go if I am not mistaken. And where did Encarnacion go?:confused: He disappeared. I agree, we should develope our own talent, but Encarnacion had the highest batting average on the team last year and he is very young. We HAVE to keep him.
November 5, 200718 yr 80-90 Wins 2nd in the Central 60-70 wins, with whatever that gets you in the NL Central. This is a bad team and it will continue to be a bad team for the near future.
November 6, 200718 yr Author You should go back and read some of the old threads. These points have all been beat to death. :sleep: So you should understand it by now...but you still don't. The kind of pitching the reds need is simply not on the Free Agent market and even if it was they couldn't afford it. The Reds would have to trade for another front of the line starting pitcher, just like the Santana thread says and in order to make that kind of trade, they'd have to give up A LOT. It would probably start with Homer Bailey and Jay Bruce, and I would never respect a GM if they traded both of those players in the same trade. Unless it was for Johan Santana (with a long-term deal in place).
