So you should understand it by now...but you still don't. The kind of pitching the reds need is simply not on the Free Agent market and even if it was they couldn't afford it. The Reds would have to trade for another front of the line starting pitcher, just like the Santana thread says and in order to make that kind of trade, they'd have to give up A LOT. It would probably start with Homer Bailey and Jay Bruce, and I would never respect a GM if they traded both of those players in the same trade. Unless it was for Johan Santana (with a long-term deal in place).

 

I understand it clearly. If they have to pull the trigger on a trade to get pitching then do it. Tell me the last time the Reds were in the playoffs. Tell me their record the past 10 seasons. And you think by some kind of a miracle they will be good next year?? How long you willing to wait for a playoff team. Its going on 20 years now. That good with you?? I'm just sick and tired of the wait till next year cheer. They are not a good team and they are even worse as a franchise. I asked the simple question of why someone would think this team is going to be better with the same squad. Waiting on a couple of guys to develop is not a great answer. Until some movement is made to better the pitching staff there is absolutely no reason to believe this team competes next year. Don't get any clearer than that. What's everyone else think? Am I standing alone here?

If Belisle can just be consistant thats a pretty good 1-4 right there. I'd be willing to say better than half the national league. You have to remember Arroyo did lose what 14 games last season? You have to expect him to be better than that this season.

Not that I honestly expect (hope, yes, expect, no) the Reds to be in contention with 6 games to go, however, have you looked at their schedule? They have the unfortunate situation of ending the season with 3 in Houston and then 3 in St. Louis.

A. Arroyo is a #3/4 at best on a quality team.

B. If the Reds are hanging their hat on the bolded there's no chance of scaring .500. Write it down, Belisle won't be in the rotation after the all-star break.

C. I agree you have to hope Homer improves, if not, 70 wins will be the tune.
