Bourbon County finished the #3 seed that year. Bourbon, Boyle, Danville and Lex Cath all put it each other out in the playoffs as Bourbon went on to win the state.

All four teams advanced in the 1st round and in the old way of the playoffs, if all four teams would have obviously met in the 2nd round....#1 v.s #4 and #2 v.s #3. The second round games that year were Boyle/Bourbon and Danville/LexCath. Trust me Hatz!! :thumb:

I thought Lexington Catholic was a 4th seed. Rockcastle was a #1 seed that year and had to play Lexington Catholic in the first round.....

Lexington Catholic was indeed the 4th seed with a 7-3 record. Bourbon was #3 at 7-3 and Danville was #2 at 9-1 with Boyle County #1 at 10-0. Rock played Lex Cath in the first round that year and Rock was #1 seed.

I pick Lincoln at Lincoln.

Lincoln had better bring their A game because Mercer has more than enough talent to pull off the upset if they are not focused. Should be a Great game.

Actually, now that I think about it, you are right and I believe I was mistaken, Bourbon did finish 4th...I think?!? Because I know in '99, in the 2nd round, there were rematches of Harrodsburg(1) v.s Danville(3) and Campbellsville(2) v.s Somerset(4)...Danville and Somerset won those rematches, then Somerset beat Danville 10-0 (and Danville had beaten Somerset 35-7, four weeks earlier.

 

Ah, regardless of Bourbon's seeding, it's a good motivator, great story, because I don't think ANYBODY had them picked to win it all.

Marty Jaggers returns to Death Valley for the first time as Head Coach to coach against the Patriots. He was the Head Coach at Lincoln County from 1991-1996.

 

He was an assistant at Danville and coached twice against the Patriots in Stanford (1998 and 2003). This year's regular season game against Mercer County was in Harrodsburg.

 

Interestingly, Marty was at the Lincoln County-Hopkinsville game last week sitting in the middle of the Lincoln County fans wearing his 1993 Lincoln County State Runnerup jacket taking notes and scouting the game.:lol:

 

I don't like a season-ending Bye week and think that will have an effect on this game. Mercer had a chance to rest up/heal up, but they also had the opportunity to get out of game rhythm. Lincoln County has played a pretty high level of competion the last few weeks (Pulaski County, Scott County and Hopkinsville) and that should work to keep them sharp and honed.

 

In the regular season game between these two that Lincoln County won 12-7 in week 3, Lincoln County was still trying to find its way offensively, having switched OC's just before the season started.

 

They have found some solid running backs in Spicer and Brummett as well as receivers in Young and Keaton. Quarterback Levi Rogers, does a good job of running the offense as a second year starter. Offensive Coordinator Mike Elkin is doing a very good job of utilizing the talent that he has on the team.

 

Head Coach Larry French, who is also the Defensive Coordinator, will have a defensive scheme ready to counter the wishbone, broken bone, shotgun-spin, jet sweep, fullback trap or whatever else the Titans bring. Hopefully, the Patriots can execute the defensive plan.

 

Good luck to both teams but I will be pulling for a Lincoln County win.

Yeah, he pulled a shocker there!! I was loving it! haha I think it got under some of the fans skin that he did that, but I'm like you Network, the majority of everybody got a good laugh out of it...that's just him.

 

 

That made two of them, Mercer was in the same position, all new starters in the backfield and tight ends on the offensive side. I firmly believe that both teams have gotten better than they were in week 3, while both still have very good defenses...it's going to be a dandy, for sure. Best of luck to both

What?! :irked: I don't like it, and don't think it is funny! Wonder what his Titans players thought about that? Seems like a STATE CHAMPIONS jacket or whatever would be the apparel of choice over a 'Runner-up' jacket. That is sort of like a chamelion changing to 'blend' in their environment. I personnaly think a Mercer Co. Titans State Champions jacket would have been a bit more classy! IMO!!!! Be proud of where you are and what you've accomplished... whether in enemy territory or not.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. To deny what he shared with Lincoln County is ridiculous and I'm sorry I find it childish to respond this way. He is an adult. He can enjoy where he is called to now as head coach but it doesn't mean he should forget what brought him to where he is today.

Maybe Marty feels more welcome, comfortable and at-home in Lincoln County than he does in Mercer County. We never jumped off his bandwagon, even during the 2-8 season in 1996. We certainly never cared what clothes that he wore or even that he looked like he slept in them when he came in for a Saturday morning radio show.
