Not sure what you are talking about but the people that I know and deal with in Lincoln County never wanted Marty to leave and were surprised when he did.

I think Lincoln is MUCH improved since the first game, but Mercer is somewhat improved as well. Just my opinion and I am welcomed to it.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. To deny what he shared with Lincoln County is ridiculous and I'm sorry I find it childish to respond this way. He is an adult. He can enjoy where he is called to now as head coach but it doesn't mean he should forget what brought him to where he is today.

 

Sorry, but to get petty and bring up the "State Runner-up" thing versus "State Champion" jacket is taking this a little too far and a little too serious.

If Lincoln Co. is what has made Jaggers what he is today, great! I am not so shallow to say that he shouldn't cherish what he had at Lincoln and care for that community or deny what he had while he was there. So, I didn't then and I'm not now saying he should deny anything he has with Lincoln. I'm merely looking at it from what his players at Mercer might think about it, as well as a few other folks. I would have thought the same thing if I had seen Coach French wearing his old Mercer gear when he scouted Mercer... but since he is at Lincoln Co., I suppose that is why he sported his Patriots gear. These are just my opions:thumb:... its how I view loyalty to where you are.

 

And trust me, I'm not so serious about this thing that I'm gonna lose any sleep over it!

Maybe Marty feels more welcome, comfortable and at-home in Lincoln County than he does in Mercer County. We never jumped off his bandwagon, even during the 2-8 season in 1996. We certainly never cared what clothes that he wore or even that he looked like he slept in them when he came in for a Saturday morning radio show.

What was Jaggers last season at Lincoln, 1996? Did he go to Danville in '97?

What?! :irked: I don't like it, and don't think it is funny! Wonder what his Titans players thought about that? Seems like a STATE CHAMPIONS jacket or whatever would be the apparel of choice over a 'Runner-up' jacket. That is sort of like a chamelion changing to 'blend' in their environment. I personnaly think a Mercer Co. Titans State Champions jacket would have been a bit more classy! IMO!!!! Be proud of where you are and what you've accomplished... whether in enemy territory or not.

Several of his Titan players were there at the game and either saw him or were told, and personally came up to me laughing about it...they got a kick out of it too, chill out.

If Marty cared about what was popular as far as coaching goes, listening to those who have never been in the position, for one..., I can promise you that he wouldn't be as successful as he has become. Network, you can attest to that.

You're exactly right about that!! I mean, there were a few grumblings, like everywhere, but that 2-8 team was just undermanned more than anything, in particular, having to start 3 freshmen on defense that year....a VERY, VERY YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED squad in '96.

 

Jaggers will forever be greatful for being at Lincoln County, as well has his family. Josh even calls that "home", even though he wound up going to Danville for 10th-12th grades. His wife, Judy taught and was an administrator in the elementary school level for 15 years, his daughter Lindsey went to Kindergarden-12 grade their (LC is "home" for her) and played Volleyball and Softball for LC..graduating in 2004. His youngest daughter, who is 8 even started out in the school system for her K and 1st grade years. (Network, I know you and others know that...but, for others that don't).

 

There is always a couple bad apples that will try and spoil the bunch as far as Lincoln Countians go....but, that's the case everywhere when you're a coach, wherever you go. Somebody(s) are always going to be ticked at you for some reason...that's part of it. Lincoln County was, is and always will be dear to Jaggers and his family, as I know Mercer County is/will be to him as well......the same probably holds true for Coach French and his, both places have done great things for him, and he has returned the favor, too.

Yes, '96 was his last year....and no, just in case anybody was wondering, Jaggers didn't resign because of that 2-8 season. His whole, entire administration was either forced out or resigned (which IMO, was a large part of Lincoln's "fallout" for a few of those years before French came)..the administration Jaggers had was all about Academics, but they were ALL FOR football, and all sports..that administration was a heck of team)....one of those is current Mercer County Super, Bruce Johnson and another was former Boyle County HS girls b-ball coach/prominent figure, Morris Alan Stewart(Jaggers and Johnson had a great relationship at Lincoln and it's a large part why Jaggers accepted the job at Mercer in '05)...his principal, assistant principal and athletic director all were out of the school system come the summer of '97. Jaggers actually resigned from the head coaching position and was going to become LC's new Athletic Director.....some things happened, and Josh (his son) decided that HE wanted to go to Danville, and the rest is history.

 

The Lincoln fans that are bitter at Jaggers are that way because of the Danville move.

I am a big LC supporter, I had no problem with Coach Jaggers sporting LC threads. Everyone I talked to thought it was great and in good fun.

 

I think both teams have improved, I just think LC has improved more. Judging LC's recent performances and getting home field advantage, LC should win this game by 10 or less. The South Laurel performance really sticks out to me. LC easily handled them, Mercer lost to them. Mercer seems to struggle against the pass, LC has been throwing the ball well.

 

All that being said, I would not be shocked at all to see Mercer pull off the mild upset in Death Valley. Jaggers will have his bunch ready to play, and there is a lot of pride on the line.
