October 29, 200718 yr I know there are at least a few people who follow Morehead football on these boards, so I figured I'd mention something. For those that don't already know, Morehead is now atop the Pioneer League standings. Dayton beat previously unbeaten San Diego, snapping their 18-game win streak. Dayton's only loss this season was to Morehead (a one-touchdown loss that still haunts me). That puts the Eagles in control of their own destiny with San Diego coming to Morehead in two weeks. Congrats are in order to Morehead. And long-live non-scholarship football!
October 29, 200718 yr Author What do these teams get if they win the Pioneer League? A league title. And the good feeling of a job well done. Though if the proposal currently before the NCAA passes, then in the future, the winner will get a bid to the FCS tournament.
October 29, 200718 yr What do these teams get if they win the Pioneer League? The winner of the Pioneer Football League plays the winner of the North East Conference in the Grid Iron Classic. There is a proposal before the NCAA to expand the FCS playoffs to 24 teams. If that happens, I'm told the PFL will get an automatic bid.
October 29, 200718 yr Any idea on the scholarship situation at MSU. Is there any proposal, to add? Not any time in the near future. Maybe eventually they will but right now they are satisfied with being non-scholarship. It drives me nuts too, I would love to see MSU get back in the OVC for football.

October 29, 200718 yr The thought of the PFL winner taking on the other FCS teams is something else. Pay attention here in about 3 weeks when MSU plays Western KY. That should be a good game.

October 30, 200718 yr MSU is a charter member of the Ohio Valley Conference...it's a crying shame they left. We need an administration and a president that will put the Eagles back where they belong and get out of this non-scholarship league. Morehead State University BELONGS in the OVC - let's get out of middle school!!

Morehead State University BELONGS in the OVC - let's get out of middle school!! Where does the money come from? That's always the question. As long as the Pioneer League is still around, there is Div. 1 non-scholarship football and my school will always have it. For a lot of schools, they saw two choices in the 1970's and 80's: pay for all the scholarships or cancel the program. Unfortunately a lot of schools took the latter option. Football is absurdly expensive and luckily for us, this third option exists.
