October 30, 200718 yr In all seriousness, Torre stunk before he went to NY, he was horrible for the Cards which is in the NL, the Dodgers are the NL, Torre didnt have to do squat as far as coaching moves go. AL is easier to manage a team than NL, not to mention the fact of the Yanks payroll. Torre will NEVER take the Dodgers to the World Series....

I think a lot of people underestimate the coaching job he's done in NY because of their payroll. He has won while keeping a lot of superstars (and soon HOF'ers) happy, which is difficult to do.

Torre doesn't have to move to hit the best player in baseball 8th. He went on a tear after that. Guys like Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Bernie Williams...etc. weren't polished veterans until they were under Torre's wing. They had the physical makeup but baseball is WAY more than just physical... That's something you wouldn't see in the dugout...

There are also a lot of intangibles that go on in the clubhouse, such as motivation, getting guys to gel together, mental preparation, etc. I'm sure a regular baseball fan could probably throw together a lineup and make pitching changes, but they couldn't take control of a club and lead them.

October 30, 200718 yr Coaches get too much credit when teams win and too much blame, when they falter. Any MLB team, would benefit from A-Rod's presence in their line-up. Attendance would also be a premium, at home and increase on the road. The financial strain, on the fans and the limited amount of revenue, to put into other contracts, is a concern. At some point, it becomes who can we relinquish, in order to sign a player like him and then, we can't afford to re-sign others. From a fan standpoint, who is passionate about the game of Baseball, I'm worried the escalating salaries, will drastically affect this great game.
