Thanks for the compliments. Hunt has played well on the JV level this year and with hard work he could start for the Birds next year. This off season will be crucial for him and he knows it. Way too early to talk about D1. Size (height) plays a major factor in the equation. Unfortunately (well at least for Hunt), Hunt's dad wasn't thinking about that when he proposed! But she does organize a great bus trip and even better post game parties. And looking at Hunt's dad, she must be a pretty good cook also.

 

I don't know how many of them will play D1, but the entire Highlands sophomore class is very talented. Collinsworth, Roller, Brown, Alford and Schlosser have already been mentioned, but it goes way beyond those kids. Bardo at qb is the real deal. At 6'3" or 6'4" already, he has the height and throws a sweet pass. Hogue at receiver has similar height, runs well and catches the ball well. Buten and Rosenhagen both have very good speed and not only are talented receivers, but play very good defensive backs. Kyle Welz is another tall receiver (6'4"?) and as he puts some muscle mass on could develop into a studly tight end. Grubbs is another tall kid (6'2' or 6'3"?) and could become a dominating o lineman as he gets stronger. Combs at center has improved considerably from his frosh year. Tyler Fennell at running back (not very tall...he has the same problem as Hunt does, but making it worse is his father has the same "issue"-sorry about that Bill) is another of those kids that has improved a lot since last year and has great quickness. Then there is Cam Dierig. He isn't going to impress anyone with his size either, but he's one of those undersized kids that has a huge heart and motor to make up for it. Brian Beck is again, another sophomore with nice height (6'1' or 6'2") and has the quickness and aggressiveness to play the defensive end or linebacker positions at a very high level. Add to those kids, the typical Highlands players that seem to come out of no where their junior and senior years due to nothing but desire, committment and hard work all year around and the sophomore class has the potential to be something special in the next couple of years.

 

But that's for the future. Right now each kid in the sophomore class has to be focused on helping this year's team win state...whether that is as a starter, as a sub when they get in the game or just pushing the starters in practice and making them work harder.

 

Amen Brother! The future does look bright. Like you said, lets focus on this year to start an unprecedented run of Championships!:thumb:

Rockcastle has a few good Sophomores. I don't know which one is the best though, I will allow doodle, Statman, or 3Wishes to post that. I know we have at least 3 sophomores starting, but don't quote me on it.

 

Rockcastle does have 3 starting sophmores. Cole Abney, Dustin Bisop but he is out due to liver problems and Derek Thacker. Cole Abney start boths ways. Matt Bullens and Jamie Todd ahve had to step up too due to the 16 injuries on the Rockcastle team

Harlan — Kenny Pennington

Evarts — Dwight Burgan

Nice post LN. It's very much appreciated by the players. Your football knowledge inspires them (if you know what I mean). There's no doubt Collinsworth is the top Sophomore at this time. He's started every game at DB and has done an outstanding job. The skys the limit for this class. I hope they stay together, practice together, support each other and form a true teammate bond that can carry a team to State Championships as well as life long friendships. :thumb:

Belfry has a pair of very good Sophomore skill players in Thomas Varney and Timmy Lovern. These two have combined to score TD's by rushing, receiving, punt returns, and kickoff returns. From their kick returns alone, they have single handidly outscored Belfry's opponents in terms of points against the Pirate starting defense. Additionally, both are key players at DB for a pass defense ranked as the best in 3A in yardage allowed(Lovern has an Interception). Varney also handles the punting duties, where he has been consistent since taking over. Varney can play QB/HB/SE on offense, and has proven to be a viable CB/S on defense. Lovern also can play HB/SE on offense and both DB positions on the defensive side of the football.

 

The two have combined for I believe 6 Kick return TD's over the past 4 games, they also had 2 Kick return TD's called back by penalties.

For Highlands Varsity I would say that Austin Collinsworth or Brandon Roller would be. IMHO Roller is one of the hardest hitting kids on the team and his speed on the Defensive End or Linebacker position almost seems unfair to the QB of other teams. And he's a sophmore.

 

Austin Collinsworth who is one of the best Corners I have ever seen. With the speed and great hands like his dad(Chris Collinsworth), I would love to see him on the other side of the ball next year. It would be great if they would let him play a little receiver next year.

 

Roller and Collinsworth, you guys are the leaders of the future, embrace it!!! Lead from example on and off the field boys. Good luck with the rest of your careers. Go Birds!!!!!!!!

For Manual Aaron Cosby is a very talented soph WR / Safety. Cosby started the last 10 games for Manual last year as a Freshman at Safety, this year plays both ways. Cosby has 1 rush for an 11 yard TD, 15 receptions for 254 yards and 3 TD's, has 1 punt return TD, and a 54 yard INT return. Cosby is also 2nd in tackles with 28 solos, 19 assists, 1 INT, 7 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble.

 

Cosby is also the point guard for the basketball team and has verbally committed to UMass and Travis Ford.

East Carter .... Would probably be ..... Tyler Back.

 

Raceland ..... Bobby Mckee or Loren Huffman or Cody Kelly.
