Saint Xavier 35 Central 7

Featured Replies

The Tigers came out slow in the 1st half and could not get their running game going. Matters were made even worse when Deuce Finch, the Tigers brilliant RB went out with a leg injury in the 2nd quarter. At the half, St. X. led only 14-7, with two Brutcher to Brown passes contributing the Tiger scores. Central, appearing to be in deep trouble on their own 3, snuck the second back through a big hole, and he romped 97 yards for a Yellow Jacket score.

St. X. regrouped in the 2nd half behind the running of Knotts, Montano, and Neal, outstanding OL play, and a smothering defense to add three additional scores in the 2nd half to wrap up the 35-7 win. The final score for the Tigers came on a 20-yard halfback pass from Knotts to Simmons , which caught everyone by surprise.

From conversations after the game, it sounds like Finch will be out for at least the next two contests.

When was the last time that the Tigers had more passing TD's than running TD's? When will Ben be back?

I certainly hope that Ben is alright. I hate to see a kid get hurt like that.

I am sorry to hear about Finch, hope he get healthy soon.

The last time I can remember the passing exceeding the running yardage for St. X. was the X/T regular season game in 2005.

Ben Zoeller could have played tonight if needed, but they wanted to hold him out until the Covington Catholic game. With Deuce on the sidelines for a while, it will be nice having Ben's running ability back in the Tiger arsenal.

Wow! This is the big story coming out of this game. Hope he is all right. Losing Finch could be a major factor for X down the road.

Losing Duece would hurt X, that's for sure, but X has very capable backups. Seems they've had a wealth of talent at RB for number of years.

After seeing the boxscore I have a question for the X faithful. I see that with a 3 td lead in the 4th quarter, X scored on a "trick" play (halfback pass). I have no problem with the call. Obviously it caught the yellowjackets snoozing - a fine call by the OC. My question is this: had the heathens of St. Matthews run the same play, in a similar circumstance, would we see admonishment for piling on?

It was probably run so the playoff opponents will have to prepare for it.

That is exactly why it was run. If your cornerbacks come up too quickly to cover the power sweep, you will pay a costly price...pick your poison! :fight:

Hmmmm! Are the people at HHS reading this?

We don't ask how...just how many!

Preparing for the playoffs is important.

Oh come on Xgrad. We wouldn't do that!

Seriously, Central had 8-9 people in the box so the two touchdown passes to Brown and one by Knotts was a result of taking what the defense gave us.
