Trinity 41 Dunbar 7

Featured Replies

Final

Lots of subs in the second half.

41-0 at half. Dunbar played their first team the whole second half (as is their prerogative). Trinity sat theirs the whole second half. PLD scores their TD with about 5 minutes left in the game. Beatty says he is happy with the way T is progressing and is respectful of Lafayette next week in Lex.

Stein completed his first 14 passes. Dunbar should be much better than what they are. This game could have been 70-0.

Very pleased with defense effort. Rocks could be starting the stretch run peaking they are famous for.

Waiting to hear from the BGP famous JimmyRef's, and his thought's about the game and his insights in to the Rocks, he is very good at breaking down each Rock Game and he has insights that very few seem to have, like he may beat to a different drum, but he does make for a good discussion.

Actually I think he is an X guy. But your are right, good insight, good discussions. Look forward to his posts.

Thanks for the kudos. My discussion points last game had to do with this year's substitution patterns. There were many heart felt stories on how their son(s) had played for Coach Beatty and how he had subbed in years past. I was pointing out that he picked out PRP and Seneca to make a point with his team this year.

Very solid game for the Rocks in emphesizing what Beatty wanted to stress-defense. Ever since the PRP game where he left the starting defense in the entire game because of the poor play early, he knows that the defense needed to get better. That was his point at halftime when Mr. King asked about the offense and Coach B switched the topic to the defensive effort. I think the half time stats for Dunbar say it all with about 25 plays for 85 yards with the majority on 3 plays. It is obvious from this game which tact that Coch Beatty has taken this year-he has evaluated the talent and sees a dropoff from the 1's to the 2s. You have 2 choices- play the 1's both ways or take the time to develop the 2's. Last night's game was impressive of a first half as T has played. Because of the senior night festivities, T subbed early and often. When the subs came in, the game got ragged from the turnovers and mistakes. Beatty knows his team and the 2's didn't look sharp. That's why Radcliff is playing DB and Weitlauf runs the fake punts.

Good job Rocks.

I agree about the drop off to a degree. A lot of the better players on this team were forced into action as sophs in 05 when T was hit with a rash of injuries. Most of those earned 5-7 games of playing time that year some more some even both ways. I see quite a few sophs this year that fit that mold of very good player potential but had not been playing. I think as the weeks move on we will see as much speed playing on the D side as is possible to put on the field at one time and still understand the asignments to be carried out. The big issue for Trinity as I see it is the continued intensity of the defense.

JR I look forward to your posts to see how little you know about the 'Rocks. Last week it was substitutions and this week it is two way players. The two way playing has DECREASED a great deal as the season has progressed. Weitlauf's position on the punt team always runs the fake punt and this is the second year that Weitlauf has manned that position.

I give Trinity all the credit in the world. They played one heck of a football game especially their quarterback. He throws well on the move and Trinity uses so many formations to keep you off balance it is a great offense. Coverdale does one heck of a job with the Offense at Trinity.

It was great to see Dunbar who was down big at the half come out in the second half and not fold up the tent and get a bunch of personal fouls or cheap shots because they were getting beat they just kept playing and really proved something to me last night even agains their second team for Trinity which is most likely a top 25 team in the state just with their second team.

Dunbar is full of Juniors like #33 Jerrel Greene, #3 Marquis Clay, #21 Martaveous Mays, #45 Steven Willis so Dunbar has better days ahead of itself.

Dunbar is loaded with talent....those kids need to buy into the system 100% and they can be a special club. That said, I was impressed with Trinity's methodical gameplan last night, they simply went to work got it done in the first half....and Bob called off the dogs earlier than any of us thought he would the starters were out at the half...

side note: the punter for Dunbar was awesome....very impressive the entire game, beautiful shots...

Rockpride you are so right about Dunbar and the game plan. I like the progress from both sides of the ball. We seem to be getting back to better OL play now the some players are back in the line up. Three more weeks to flush out the kinks.

Thanks for the compliments.

As to the fake punts, you have called it four times in the last two years. One against Male where Weitlauf broke his ankle picking up the first down, once against St X that X got the substitution penalty on the first drive, once against PRP for 27 yards and a TD, and once against Dunbar.
