I think them being able to beat anybody beside Trinity, X or Male is a huge stretch at least. Of the 8 teams at the state finals last Mercer was maybe the 6th best IMO, luckly they were in 2A. I don't think they could have won the 1A game and surely not the 3A.

Congratulations on your opinion! :thumb:

So where does Mercer fall in the playoffs... we're in, right? First game against Lincoln Co.?

Yes, Mercer is in. Whether they are 3rd or 4th depends on the Rockcastle game this week and if South Laurel wins out their next two weeks. I'll leave it at that for now and get to talking about everything else after what is hopefully a very good game between two teams that eximplify the term "Power Football", and hopefully a win that would be HUGE for Mercer leading into the playoffs.:thumb:

Rockcastle is mainly a running team, right? It seems we don't do as well against teams that can throw the ball well. I think getting out on top early is essential. The 'come from behind' games are hard on the kids, mentally, IMO. Especially since there have been so many close games go down to the wire, they need to get out on top and stay on top to keep momentum and confidence for 4 quarters.

I have seen us run the ball and pass a few times but I have to agree with you on the last part of your post it is hard on the kids physically and mentally to play catch up on a team and win. So IMO if the ROCK keeps the momentum and their confidence up and get on top early they will win this with no problem.

They are young and not a Rock team that I am used to seeing. I'll pick Mercer by 7 in this one.

My guess is that Mercer's stronger schedule will begin to pay dividends in this game. the Titans by 10.

If Rockcastle walks in thinking it's no problem, they will be in for a rude awakening. Mercer is a good football team, that is very physical.

I say Mercer wins this game by seven or less. I thought Mercer was getting better, that loss last weekend shocked me. Having seen both teams play, I thought Mercer would win that game quite easily.

Should be a low scoring game this week. Not much offense by either team.

Mercer is getting better, much better than they were the 1st half of the year, especially offensively, they've put up 31 and 48 points the last two weeks.. Don't let the South Laurel game fool you, Ricky Bowling, their QB was a freak of nature that nite. He honest to goodness, COULD NOT miss, and he put the ball where either his guys were going to catch them or noone was. It's the single best passing performance I have ever seen.Period. 33/41 459 yards, 6 TD's...at one point he had completed 18 straight and was 21/22 at halftime.

I agree with you, he is a good QB.

Looks like Mercer and LC will meet in the first round, as a LC fan it makes me nervous. LC has improved a lot since the last meeting, but I know what you all are about. It would/will be a battle.

What has to happen for Mercer to get the three seed?

Rockcastle's defense, seems to be solid at times but the offense, hasn't been productive, other than against McCreary and early on.

Any ideas, what needs tweaked.

Mercer moving up to 5A has nothing to do with it, not getting back into old news, but last years Mercer team could have beaten anybody, with the exceptions of maybe a Trinity, St. X or Male.....hands down, no question.

Are you sure?

Did you happen to watch the game or game film from the 2006 2-AA State Championship Game???

Let me check. Yes. I was also on the sideline. Were you there?! Do you remember a 40 mph wind that blew constantly, and had so much of a factor that Mercer...1)didn't attempt, but 1 pass, which was a screen that almost ended up your alls side of the stands and 2) Mercer didn't run, but a couple plays of their several differnt "sweep, quick pitch, rocket" type plays (plays that they made a living on up until that game) because when they tried running them in the pregame, the wind actually took the ball and threw it in the ground.

Here's what I don't get about some of you Russell fans that still have a chip on your shoulder. By making jabs at Mercer, you in turn, slap your ownselves in the face....which I don't understand.

Because, I, for one brag about the type of team you all had and the program you have to anyone that asks me. IMO, with the exceptions of Trinity, I'm not so sure that their was 2 better teams that played that weekend. I'd a taken the two teams that were on the field that extremely windy, cold morning over any two teams that weekend...hands down, no question.

Think about the fact that YOU ALL (Russell) might have been just a little bit better, regardless of class, than you and some of your own on here seem to give credit.

I can assure you that they're not going to do that. Some people on here from Rockcastle County don't speak for the entire group.
