A close family friend of mine can tell you about their child that became so obsessed with his next high from marijuana that he stole the money for their house payment, money out of mom's purse, credit cards, etc, etc etc.

 

And the law stops that now? If you are under 21 it is easier to get than a case of brew, which is more addictive anyhow.

If it is legal, it is hard to convince a teenager that it is bad for them. They don't take the argument that it is okay for a 21 year old but not for a 20 year old.

 

There are teenagers that will stay away from it because simply it is illegal for everyone. They won't stay away from alcohol because they see a hypocritical stance that it is good for adults, bad for children.

I have heard of a similar situation, however it was gambling that was the addiction... Should that be illegal?!?!?!?!

I am not a doctor and all I have is personal experience where this young man and others I have known was that all they could focus on was their next high. School was irrelevant. Their future was irrelevant. Their family was irrelevant.

I know what I believe from 20 years as a teacher. Marijuana leads to other drugs and it is highly addictive to young people. And it ruins lives. And teenagers don't want to hear the hypocracy that it is okay for an adult but not for them. How many times have we hear the argument, you can die for your country but not drink a beer.

I am telling you that they BELIEVE, they would say KNOW, that they are just as much in the know and making good decisions at 16 as an adult of 40 is. And to them, if it is good enough for an adult, it is good enough for them.

Might be, still does not mean that legalizing marijuana is a good idea. It makes it even more of a horrible idea. Let's give these people with addictive personalities another product with easy access and according to some what seems pot experts on here at a "greatly reduced" price. Let's make it a combo pack at the neighborhood convenience store. For $4.99, you get a couple joints, box of King Dons, 2-liter of Mt. Dew.

First, this goes for everything parents try to protect their children from. Do we ban everything not appropriate for a child? Second, the drug is ubiquitous now, it’s in their face already. A kid can get pot just as fast as they could get alcohol; the law is clearly not deterring anyone. Thirdly, since kids are so illogical, then you have to address the argument that making something illegal just makes it more enticing. When kids are told not to do something they are inevitably overcome with the desire to do it.

LBBC, with all due respect that is ridiculous. You're never going to ban everything harmful to each person. We aren't running around in nerf suits driving bumper cars. Making life better for people means teaching responsibility and control.
