Or maybe it was because we were kids when we were under 21 and did not make good decisions. Once we grew up some, we started making better decisions.

If you tax it so much that it is not affordable why do you think there will not be an underground market for it bypassing the tax issue like there is now. I don't see how tax the bejives out of it does anything. Those doing it now, don't care about following the law so why would we think they would all of a sudden want to follow the law and pay taxes on it and run the price up?

 

People pay a lot of money for this stuff now. Taxing the "bejives" out of it would most likely still be a decrease in the price of it.

I believe many of those who choose not to drink alcohol at age 21, are doing so because of their adult responsibilities. Many go home and perhaps consume in their own home, as do the illegal substance users.

 

Making a drug legal, which can impair ones ability to think, rationalize, decision make and judgment, would be a tremendous impact on accidental deaths or other violent crimes. If a store sold it, thugs would want it; more people out looking for it....easier access, means additional abuse.

Against:

Several of these can be combined. What some may view as creative can also be viewed as stupid. Nobody has died from it but it causes lung cancer? Isn't pain and stress relief what the medicinal value of pot is?

I'm saying that, like drinking, if someone wants to smoke weed they will, regardless of age. It's easily available. Also yes, as we get older we decide if we want be a drunk or if we want to be someone that contributes to the good of society.

There are a thousand things that people could do to relieve stress. Here is one, how about exercise, seen as the best stress reliever and it would address the obesity problem in this country.

 

And the pacifism, heck I fight TOO MUCH of that all that time in schools where kids who smoke pot like it is water, don't care. They don't care about school, their future or their education. Just about getting high. Your right it does. It takes away much of their will to do anything but be a knot on a log.

Alcohol does these exact same things. So to your point of consuming responsibly, there's no difference between marijuana and alcohol.IMO

 

Add in the fact that, like HHSDad stated, employers will still have the right to test and insurance companies will still make them test their employees. As I said, those that will now, will continue and those that don't...won't...

Prohibition did not stop the use of Alcohol and making pot illegal has not stopped the use of it and it's not going to. The people are going to do it regardless.

You probably would have a rule on your baseball team against talking while you are talking. If one kid continually refuses to follow that rule, do you remove that rule for the whole team or does that kid pay the consequences for his refusal to follow the rules of the team.

If I implemented a rule that allowed kids to talk while I'm talking but everytime they did, they gave me a quarter. I'd have a LOT less problem with it... j/k I'd still go nuts...

Disagree. For some it did. For those that wanted to be law abiding citizens, they stopped. For those that did not care about being law abiding citizens, it did not matter. So are you saying we should create laws according to what those who choose to NOT follow the laws want?

 

BTW, did legalize alcohol stop the deaths caused by drunk driving? I betcha that there have been more people who have died because of drunk driving, crimes committed while drunk or alcohol related diseases 10 times over than were killed during Prohibition by the mob.
